Guest Leadbuck
How many of you trim shooting lanes early and put up stands to make sure you have a clear shot. Right now in Minnesota there is no bugs or ticks yet. Also finding last years rubs and scraps is easyer. I have been doing alot myself every weekend. Most of the time I do not put stands up I try to trim every thing up high with a pole saw. Then in August my stands go up and finish triming from the stand with my pole saw. JimT
Re: Triming shooting lanes Shooting lanes are very important. I have a few off from each stand I trim. I usually do them a month before the season starts though..not now.
Rhino
Re: Triming shooting lanes I'm one of those nuts too. Right now I'm turkey hunting but come May and June I'll be doing some of that on my funnel stand locations. Some others will get done later after I do some more scouting after turkey season. I'm one of those nuts that tries to get my hang on stands positioned early and then keep my climbers in reserve to be mobile during the season. I need to have those hang on stands finished before the end of August because I'll spend late August through the 3rd weekend in September clearing and cutting ATV roads, cutting food plots and planting food plots on our hunting club. ThethirdI
Re: Triming shooting lanes I went out the weekend before last and did about 12 hours of scouting. In August I will go back and set up stands with my hunting partner and cut the lanes when the foliage is in full bloom. I have found that it helps me out because in the fall when it is time to hunt the leaves are still on anyway for the first few weeks of season. If I trim now then the limbs have time to grow back or the leaves have a tendency to get in my way.
JoshM
Re: Triming shooting lanes When i get in my spot i always make a shooting lane or clear the path of twigs and branchs
buckee
Re: Triming shooting lanes It's always nice to get your tree-stands up and shooting lanes all cleared, at least 2 weeks to a month before you plan on hunting it. It gives your scent a chance to go away and gives the deer a chance to get used to seeing something odd there, without being spooked. Nothing like hunting relaxed deer. Swamphunter
Re: Triming shooting lanes I clear shooting lanes...my brother in law clears shooting 4 lane highways! I clear just what is needed to get the job done. My brother in law will literally almost clear everything except for a few saplings in a 25 yard area. and I am not kidding on this one

Guest gobblergetter15
Re: Triming shooting lanes I will be doing that after turkey season.Im excited about next deer season. One of the private ranches that I hunt has a ton of deer, and the other one is small but last year there was a nice twelve pointer spotted several times!!! Tominator
Re: Triming shooting lanes Very rarely for me. Most of my lane cutting is done 10 minutes before the hunt.

GWSmith
Re: Triming shooting lanes My trimming consists mainly of bending over maybe a few small trees, often just enough to get them under another branch without breaking them, but thats about it. I hunt on State Land or Private Property that i have permission to hunt.....I dont even want to be losing my priveleges on either by enacting a deforestation program.
