Accuracy potential-Push feed vs. CRF

When all is said and done. Looking at push feed actions & controlled round feed actions. Which action is the best to base a rifle on for accuracy when it comes to long range Big game hunting & as a seperate rifle, varmint hunting? When I say long range hunting I am talking about 300-500 yards.

Re: Accuracy potential-Push feed vs. CRF

Not to say that CF guns can not be made into very accurate guns, but I have never seen a benchrest winner with one. I have an FN commercial Mauser 98 that I made into a long range varminter. It shoots very respectable groups (1/2") at 200 yards, but it is designed to shoot 500+ yards. With a CF gun you can get into the .2xx" (~1/4") group range with a good gunsmith.

Push feed guns on the other hand can be made into super accurate guns capable of shooting very small groups. You can get sub 1/4" groups with a good gunsmith and a quality PF action. To go below that, it takes a premium quality barrel, a blue printed action, sometimes a sleeve depending on the action used, a quality stock, quality optics, and a very good shooter that knows how to read the wind.

You can get a decent quality varmint gun with a Rem 700 action. For a 300-500 yard varmint gun, I would want 1/2" groups at 100 yards on average for 5 different 5 shot groups. This is realistic and achievable. For a big game gun, a gun that will average MOA will be fine. The kill area is a lot bigger on big game so the gun can be more of a production type gun. I would want the gun to average MOA out to 500 yards for big game. This takes as much shooter talent as it does a quality built gun.

I would use handloads for all shooting past 300 yards. Things start to get critical out past 300 yards.
