Palssonater
Well I have a "Hydro Monday" coming up so that gives me a long weekend to hunt. I am really looking forward to shooting better than I have been. I have to get out and get some numbers. Recently opportunities have been few and far between. I really haven't had many birds sit on us. Not too many cupped up and just coming in. Little things are killing us. This weekend I hope to be with some guys who don't mind making changes. A couple of weeks ago, I had the privelege of hunting with Shawn Stahl from Avery. He was really great at trouble shooting the spread and really made the birds work. By the end of the hunt they were hovering just above us in the wind. That has to be the best hunt for "convinced" birds yet. Opening weekend was amazing but the shots presented wasted a lot of shells. Slowly getting bummed out about this season. I really need some good drake mallard shoots or something. Greenheads always seem to cheer me up. Birds are very mature this year. I have seen many greenheads, canvasbacks, teal and divers in full plumage already. I can't wait for this weekend....I need it. I may get a chance to hunt inside the perimeter(city limits) this weekend, which would be great for some honkers.

rbduck
Re: Long Weekend - I need it! Try the Rosser area if you can find the land owners. Wholesale Sports have maps of the Rosser/McDonald area. I work at the airport and I see thousands of geese every morning in the Rosser area(LOTS). We`ve had some good shoots in the Lorette area on private land. Libau has too much water right now in the area we hunt but apparantly there are lots of Mallards there( we can`t even walk into our spots). Good luck on your weekend hunt. We don`t know if we are going for geese or the BP season yet. ......I do hear you about the duck hunting though, we got the same problem. Never thought I`d see the day I was tired of shooting geese. Palssonater
Re: Long Weekend - I need it! rbduck > I actually work at Dorsey Converter Station! Not many geese around here that is for sure. The fields would be about 4 feet of mud just to get to a spot. I have a buddy who hunts inside the perimeter and does great every weekend. I may be trying that, but geese suck. I want some canards. I will go home to arborg, which is for once, one of the dryer places in manitoba. Palssonater
Re: Long Weekend - I need it! Weekend was great....sorta. Hunting was good. My shooting was much better. I was really shooting well. Some nice ducks and geese. Unfortunately I forgot my cameras so I didn't get any of it documented. Stupid....i was mad at that. Check out the lounge for the rest of what happened this weekend!
