Are the newer bows pretty light ??

I see all your pics of your new bows, and they all seems to have cutouts on the risers beside the split limbs. I take it is like this mainly for weight purposes ? Most of you know that since I had a shoulder replacement done a few years back that I'm unable to extend my arm out and hold hardly any weight, that is why I'm a x-bow dude now !! I now wonder just how light the new bows actually are.

Any help appreciated smile.gif

The only thing that I don't understand about the Switchback is why does it seem to be top heavy. It feels like to me that it is trying to flip out of my hand the whole time that I hold it at arms length. Just a weird observation. I like the bows but it just seemed strange.

Re: Are the newer bows pretty light ??

yes the new cut out risers are lighter . but the main reason Hoyt has the cut out risers is because of this..

it makes them strronger , more balanced and provides overall greater stability . the stiffness and rigidity of the TEC riser design eliminates excess vibration in the riser...though it is lightweight it is extremely strong...

plus from a competitive stand point a heavier bow is easier to aim than a light bow.. a heavier bow will make you hold steadier in any conditions ... which in turn makes you make better shots...

heres my 3D rig .. it weighs in at around 6 pounds..

my hunting bows in the past have weighed slightly more..

Mike;

I'm shooting a Mathews Outback, with a Copper John sight, a Vital Bow Gear dropaway, a Doinker 4" Shorty Hunter, and an Alpine Soft-Lok quiver, sims limbsavers. I just put it on my postage scale, and it came in at 6 pounds even, complete, with an empty quiver. Hope this helps

Re: Are the newer bows pretty light ??

yea its just my competition stabilizer.. wink.gif

im shooting in the Open class in 3D and i find it balances the bow better for me.. grin.gif plus i also shoot Freestyle for indoor competition and i use the same size stabilizer ..

but for hunting i go to a 12 inch Bomar .. and its heavy as heck.. but it sure makes the bow feel good... grin.gif
