Squirrelhunter91
Re: Jakes or Toms When Jakes strut, their center tail fan feathers are higher than the rest of the fan. As compared to a Tom's fan is perfectly rounded across the top. All feathers are even.
buckbuster11
Re: Jakes or Toms Jakes also normally have much smaller beards, smaller or no spurs, and they sound like they are choking on a golfball when they gobble.
RDNKHNTR77
Re: Jakes or Toms Buck and Squirrel are right. the main way to identify them is by the middle tail feathers being a little higgher than the rest. a small beard does not necessarily make it a jake because there is something called beard rot and the beards sort of decay from the cold weather and are not as big. the spurs can also get worn down.
