HuntingInMaine
Last week the weather was beautiful and the kids were on spring break, so I took my two boys and their two cousins fishing. My boys are pretty good about being able to fish relatively unaided, but their cousins don't get to fish often, so I knew to not bother bringing a pole for myself! LOL We got down to the beach where we would be fishing and after about 20 minutes we had untangled the messes made on the walk down. Then there was a quick lesson on putting the worm on the hook. Everything was going smoothly and two lines were in the water while the cousins were learning to cast an open faced reel. FINALLY all lines were in the water and they were fishing! This glory lasted for about five minutes when lines were brought back in, new worms put on to replace the lost ones (guess the worm on hook lesson wasn't as good as I thought!) After a few more casts two poles were a tangled mess, one was saved and the other line cut to start over again. It went on like that for another hour, running from pole to pole to pole to pole to untangle, reworm, ect. The three boys gave up to go looking for tadpoles, but the one girl kept fishing. She started screaming and I thought she had hooked herself when she finally told me she had a fish. It turned out to be a sucker (and the only fish of the day), but the boys came running and they were all acting as if a huge brookie had been caught! I have never been so tired after a day of river fishing! LOL (especially when I didn't get to do much fishing of my own) The kids can't wait to go again, but I told them they have to wait for me to recuperate from the last trip. It is great that the kids are having all this fun, but I think the next time I will be bringing another adult to help keep the poles in the water and untangled. Here's a pic of the catch....(she wouldn't touch the fish with bare hands, so she pulled down her sleeves...we'll have to work on that! LOL)

hutchies
Re: Took some kids fishing.... Always a good idea to take them to do something. It keeps them out of trouble and interests them in doing other things.
