Chrud
Nikon Monarch. If you want binoculars that won't fail, you will HAVE to spend money on them. Anything over $200 will probably be a very good set. I currently have the Nikon Team Realtree Hunting Binoculars. They are very nice, but I would like something with a little more power. The Nikon Monarch's are the first on my list.

They work really nice, you shouldn't have a problem with them on your Elk hunt. But if you want some real zoom, Nikon also makes a 10-22x50 bino under 300$. AJ
Re: Binoculars Here is another user and fan of the Nikon Monarch ATB 10x40 binocs. They are light weight, have great optics, and hold up well. I bought my ATBs in 1999 and have used them on deer hunts, varmint hunts, predator hunts, elk hunts, and turkey hunts. They are hard to beat for the price.

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Binoculars newguy-------1st welcome to the board. Lots of good people here. IMO & I've hunted elk for over 25 years here in Colorado. Don't get 10x---they are too much magnification. They will be hard to hold steady----causing eye strain---which leads to a Whopper of a headache or you will quit using them. I like 7x or 8x-----and with good glass you'll beable to pick out the detail. Plus elk are big---you'll know a bull when you see one---plus you'll REALLY know a good one when you see one. I've used Bushnell, Pentax, Bausch & Lomb-------I sucked it up this year & bought a pair of Leica 7x40. I should have done it 20 years ago. IMO---suck it up & get a pair of Swaro, Lieca, Ziess----you'll use them your entire hunting life & you'll never reget the purchase. One last word of advise is to start your Cardio conditioning NOW. The Rockies are steep & altitude. It has riuned many hunt when the hunter has come from the flat land with a few extra pounds. I've seen plenty gasping for breathe. _MD_
Re: Binoculars I agree with Colorado Bob some of those suggestions are just to big. I have hunted elk all my life and use Bushnell Legends 8X32. They are awsome. Light weight, compact and a good price for the quality you receive. Good luck on the elk hunt. They have eyecups identical to the Trophy's. I like the Nikon eyecups a lot better. Easier to turn in and out. Plus, they focus A LOT easier than the Legend's did. [/ QUOTE ] Well just because you found a lemon doesnt mean I have a lemon! The pair I have work great! Nikon Optics are better, I know this! But, the Trophy objective eye pieces that you look through are larger than most binos I have looked through. This giving me a larger field of view. I have found some binos costing $500 or more with this larger eye objective. But I personally cant see spending that kind of money when I can get the same results, I paid around $180 for my Trophy's. Not sure what the Nikon's were? I been to Cabela's and Bass Pro and looked through every one that I thought was a decent price. Even been to three different gun shops, this is where I found the Trophy's that I bought. I might have to look again, but, none had the larger eye objective like the Trophy's did! JMO! Chrud
Re: Binoculars [ QUOTE ] I paid around $180 for my Trophy's. [/ QUOTE ] Natchez used to have them for around $120 I think. Just for future use, always check out www.natchezss.com first for optics or treestands. They have the Nikon Monarch for about $230-$250. They usually run about $300. Dollar for dollar, when comparing what I could see out of the Legend's to my Nikon's (lower end, Team Realtree 10X36) there was no comparasion. The Bushnell's focus knob was a lot tougher to move and the eyecups weren't as comfortable as the Nikon's.
LifeNRA
Re: Binoculars Yeah ok! I saved the web site. But like I said, the eye objective was much larger than anything else I looked at. With glasses on, it gave me a view like i wasnt wearing any glasses. This is what sold me chrud. Besides thier are water and fog proof as well. Mine work great, have no problems with the focus knob. I got mine when they first came out so I guess the price came down a little since then. About the only thing I dont care for is the weight of them. But since I use the Cabela's Bino Sysytem, all the weight goes on my shoulder now, not the neck. Ill never use a pair of binos without them too!
