Is it ok to......

Sure, it won't damage the metal or the finish at all. If you decide later to go back to blue or matte finish, use some acetone and remove the paint. The blueing will still be there. Before you spray the gun, wipe down the gun with acetone to remove the oils.

If you decide to use tape, be sure to check your zero after installing the tape. It's not uncommon to have a POI shift after the tape installation due to the changing of harmonics. I have seen a 1.5 MOA shift after using tape, thats why I spray paint them now. Also if your barrel is floated you may want to do some additional work removing material from the forend since the barrel just got fatter. If your barrel is not floated and uses a pressure pad, the tape changes things. It may make them better or worse, it depends on the gun. What I am saying is if you use tape don't assume everything will be the same after you tape the barrel. Be sure to check it on paper before hunting.

I take it that the white is hunting in the snow ??

That would limit you some for the season. As long as your gun doesn't reflect the shine, it would be fine. I have full camo and also matte black guns and barrels, never had any problems with critters seeing them smile.gif You shouldn't have rust problems using it, just do a good job cleaning the barrel before you paint it !!

It probably wouldn't damage the gun shooting wise but I would rather use tape or have a proffesional do it.
