TreeStandBowHunter
My wife and I have tennis courts in our development. We bought rackets and balls and play every now and then. But I havn't the foggiest on how to play and score and what all them lines mean in the court. Does anybody know how to play tennis. Is there any "tennis for dummies" website out there

Tominator
Re: Tennis...Help playing it love-love, 0-0 15-love 30 love 40 love game. If you and your opponent get to 40 40, this is called Deuce, in which case you have to win the next 2 points to win the game. first one to 6 games (winning by two), gets the set. must win the set by 2, so if you're tied 5 games to 6, you'd have to play until someone gets a 2 game advantage. Most women tourneys play best of 3 sets. Most men tourneys play best of 5 sets.
fisherguy
Re: Tennis...Help playing it bah, score it this way. if the ball gets past the opponent, point for server. If it lands outside the lines before thefirst bounce, point for whoever was recieving it. Play until one person has whooped the other throughlt. Much simpler that way. lol

Is it the same way in tennis or can the receiver get the point too. Also, what about all them lines and squares on the court What is the objective? I got the scoring down now, I just need the concept. Thanks for the feedback
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Tennis...Help playing it for points either person is awarded points, no matter who is serving...there are 2 sets of "out of bounds" lines.....the widest set of lines is for doubles play...the inner lines (that run the length of the court) are the out of bounds lines for singles play.....there are 4 squares on the court.....2 on your side and 2 on the opponents side..(divided by the net obviously:))....these are for serving....the server i believe starts out on the right side of the court (at the ends of each side of the court there is a small divider line)....the serves has to make the ball over the net without hitting the net and make the ball land in the left hand square of the oppenents side...after that the ball can land anywhere on the court....after each point you switch...for example....after the first point...since you were serving on the right side...you move to the left side to start the next point...and go game and forth til the game is done...after every even number game..the two players switch sides of the court...ie..after game o-ne..you go to the other end of the court and your oppenent goes to where you were....after the 3rd game..5th..and so on....oh yeah...and on the serve...if you hit the net or fail to get it in the square...you get a second try...if that fails then points are awarded to the otther player......lol, its pretty hard to describe it to someone without actually being on a court...hope this helps
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Tennis...Help playing it Dude, your awsome man, let me blow you a kiss . You explained it very well without being inside the court and I actually understand what you are saying and it's usually hard to get me to understand stuff . My wife will be happy now Thanks man. Thank you also Tominator on explaining the scoring. I knew I could count on the Realtree gang Fisherguy, I wish they would make it as easy as vollyball
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Tennis...Help playing it Actually there is one more thing....Does the ball have to bounce before you can hit it. I am not talking about serving, I know it can't bounce on the serve, I am talking once it is hit....does it have to bounce or can you hit it in the air. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Tennis...Help playing it on the sevre it has to bounce...other than that it doesn't have to but if it does it can only bounce once..if it bounces more than once on the courtthan the person who hit it is awarded points

Proper scoring has the server score first though. Example 15 40 means the person serving has one point, the person receiving has 3 points. 15 40 is also called "double break point." OK, the lines is going to be kind of hard to explain via a keyboard, but here goes: The little lanes on the outside you don't worry about unless you're playing doubles. The two big squares up by the net is the service boxes. Your serves have to land in that box in order to be good. If they land outside of the box that's called a fault. Two faults in a row, and your opponent gets the point. Serves are not allowed to touch the net at all. You alternate serve boxes every point. You switch sides of the court after 7 games I think, not real sure about that one. The big rectangle near the back line, behind the service boxes is all in play for singles and doubles. Anything that hits a line is in. (except the farthest outside lines when playing singles). Clear as mud?

Problem is, it takes about 3 hours to get there from here or we would probably go more often than that. You know the state park I am talking about right??? I wish you guys went camping, we could hook up man? I mean tent camping too...like real men do
