AJ, bullet question

Of the modern bullets available, which .375 200gr would you choose for a .375 Win. 14" Contender handgun load? Do they make one that'll expand at handgun velocity?

I'm expecting I should be able to acheive a muzzle velocity in the 1700-1800 fps range.

I came across a 375 Win. barrel today and just couldn't pass it up. I've always wanted one, just never got around to owning one till today.

Thanks,

Re: AJ, bullet question

Hey 'gunnr,

I checked my Hornady manual and they have handgun data for the .375 Win in a 14" Contender. They are using the same 220 gr flat point and are getting 1850 with all powders used and can get 1950 from RL-7. I would think the 225 gr spire point would also work fairly well.

Speer says their 235 gr semi spitzer will perform alright. they say "expansion is modest but penetration is excellent". They have almost 1900 fps as a max velocity with it using RL-7. All loads are compressed loads. They do say they never reach SAAMI max pressure of 52K cup.

Looks like there are a couple options. They should be fairly decent combinations. You can always ream it to .375 JDJ.
