5 year old FL felon

Did you happen to see the video of the 5 year old girl getting arrested at school. What I saw was a shame and should never have happened. Putting a 5 year old in cuffs is stupid. The problem is, that with the schools liberal polocy the teacher nor the principal had the right to do what needed to be done.

Yes the child was a danger to herself and to the other children in her class, but not of the teacher. She's a 5 year old child. She should have been bent over and had her hind end worn out. Judging from her mothers reaction she hasn't got a clue about disciplining a child, and neather do her techers.

I was talking to my daughters teacher today and told her that if my child ever acted that way to bend her over his knee and wear her out.

The Police were doing the job that they were trained to do. In the cercumstance they were put in, they did thier job well. But they should have never been there in the first place.

That's the world we live in today. John has a good point there. There should not have been a need to call the police, but because the schoolboards hands are tied these days when it comes to laying a finger on a student for whatever reason, the police had to be called. It was their only recourse, and they did a fine job of getting the classroom cleared and back to normal, keeping the child same from harming herself or others in the process, and teaching that spoiled little brat a good lesson in the meantime.

I'd also like to say, since this subject has already run it's course in two threads in the lounge, that if this turns into a LEO bashing post, I will lock it.

Re: 5 year old FL felon

A grown man or woman could have subdued that small child fairly easily and gotten her off to the back of the cruiser without the use of the cuffs. I think the approcah was wrong. From what I saw of what had been aired on the television the assitant prinicpal and teacher seemed to be afraid of the kid. The one heavy set woman in the video held her hands out while the little girl swung. She did not begin swinging though until after the woman stuck her hands out, which makes me wonder what was said to raise the reaction. Another thing is the video, why if they could not control her were they videoing this kid and why was it aired on television like it was. The personvideoing should have helped control the kid. I still agree that that kid needs some good old fashion disciplining at home, but wonder if a person trained to run a school should not also be trained to control these type situations and from what I saw they had no control.

I think the teachers did exactly what they should have. If the monster does not want to act civilized, take action. The liberals have taken away any actions the teacher could have taken (use the "Board of Education") so why not use the system like it is designed? If you listen to the actions, the cops say this is not the first time with her and putting the cuffs on her was the best thing to do. Hopefully it will give the kid a wake up call. IMO, the LEOs did a great job here. By the article's write up and the parents mindset, the parent should be the next one with a wake up call.

Re: 5 year old FL felon

Well in since we are referring to cops as LEO's, I will say that I think we for the most part have some fine LEO's out there. And I also think that all too often, we take too much power from them. Now excessive force is one thing for a 5yr old but to control some little kid that is out of control by putting hand cuffs on her, well....I guess that will teach her.

Someone hit it on the nail. I think MOST things go back to the parents. There is a story going on now down in Rhode Island about a guy that killed a cop. He walked in to court with swollen eyes and a face mask on and his parents were crying and hopping around in court and making a scene because he looked like this. To be honest, I don't think he was beat enough. They are trying to say that he is the victim. This guy pulled the cops gun out of his holster in the police station and shot the cop point blank and people are worried about his rights. The heck with his rights. If cops were given more power, we would probably have less crime in the US.

As far as the schools, wtnhunt is right, they should be equipped to handle this stuff and it should of never gotten to the cops in the first place!

The video was obviously from a stationary position leading me to believe that it was probibly there in a permanant manner. The school was informed that they could not touch the child. Any adult with any sence and enough guts would have turned her over their knee and solved the problem pretty quick.

And then been promptly fired and sent to jail. Its a no win situation for the school and the police.

True, but it's still what should have happened.

You guys are missing the BIG picture... Our country is so sue happy that if that teacher laid a finger on that child to disicpine, that teacher would have been Sued... Fired.. Fined.. and possibly put in jail. The cops are the Only way a teacher can keep a rowdy kid in line now a days.

I like the bible idea lol.. but not in a public school. We'd have the parents sueing for preaching in schools. HA.. our legan system is So... hmm. can't use that word.... messed Up.

Re: 5 year old FL felon

The school knowing that a suit would follow if they touched her not working with the police officers to get her under control without using cuffs and setting the mother off was pretty stupid. Giving proof of it by video taping and giving that tape to the media was pretty well, ignorant in my opinion. Almost seems like they asked for a lawsuit.

The kid was pretty isolated from other kids and no serious risk to anyone from what I saw. I am not saying the kid does not need some discipline, I am saying that in todays world, these type siuations have to come up from time to time and knowing better how to handle them would make all the difference. Why did the woman approach the kid and what was said to initiate the swinging? Why didnt she just back off and give her space.

Re: 5 year old FL felon

I spend a lot of time volunteering in my kid's elementary school. There are a few kids who have terrible behavior problems. One many occasions I have seen these kids running down the hall, screaming obsenities that would make a long shore man blush, hitting teachers, ect. I have seen them attack the teachers for no reason, and I have seen them throw themselves to the ground and just scream and thrash because they can't do what they want to do.

I know teachers who have had their lip split open, black eyes and other scratches and bruises. Since when was abuse from students part of the job description?

What is the school suppose to do when faced with these children? We know they can't touch the kids, so are they suppose to sit back and let themselves get beaten up by an elementary school child? What are these kids going to be like when they get to high school?

I think the school and the cops did the right thing. What other choice did they have? If I hadn't seen for myself the way some kids act on a regular basis, I would probably think that someone had gone way over board, but knowing what I do, I think this was the best choice.

Maybe this situation will be a wake up call for the girl and she will see that that type of behavior isn't acceptable. (I doubt it, but it would be nice...)

Re: 5 year old FL felon

You know what? When I was in school, we got a butt whippin with a paddle and sent back to class. Did not have to do that too many times either to get the message. If the parents are not willing to do it, I sure think the schools should be able to. Kids have to learn that there are penalties for misbehaving. They are not learning that these days from a LOT of parents. Sorry, I mean Mom's and Dad's...I can hardly call them parents.

Re: 5 year old FL felon

I was the entermural raquettball champ in college one year and have a paddle the same legth as my raquet. I've used it once this year. Now if I start walking toward it things suddenly settle down and I hear a lot of "Yes sir, I'm sorry sir"

Call it barbaric if you want, it works.
