Turkeygirl
Ok, so I dragged my butt out of bed at 5:15am to go listen for turkeys with season 2 days away. I walked about 1/2 mile up a corn field and sat just inside the woods, several hundred yards below a ridge where I found turkey scratchings the other day. Guys, I heard nothing and I'm worried, lol! I waited until light then tried some hooting to no success. Could a 20 degree temperature have caused the gobblers to shut-up? My other thoughts are if there was a gobbler here, someone got him during the youth hunt, or there are no gobblers around this spot. I don't know where to look. I am going out tonight to another part of the woods to listen and will definitely got out Saturday morning though they said rain. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have a free gobbler, lol
RangerClay
Re: Went out this morning...help! They could all be the reasons for no response. Cold weather will quiet turkeys. Youth hunters could have been there. Or you may have a problem we ran into. Coyotes ! A couple years ago we scouted several turkeys the week before season opened. Open day, nothing! But we did call in three yotes. We had to go to the other side of the mountain to find where they were hiding. Also if there are coyotes in the area you're turkeys may come in silent. Hope this helps T-girl. Good luck Sunday. Ranger
redbeard
Re: Went out this morning...help! For you turkeygirl, everything's on the house in Georgia. Come on down. And yep, 20 degrees colder may make them shut up. Just stay in the woods, you'll hear one. Good luck.
Turkeygirl
Re: Went out this morning...help! Thanks so far guys. So far one of my plans, because it may be raining, is to set up on the edge of that field, below the ridge. Another plan is to set up in another area of the woods in hopes of calling a gobbler I did see on land I can't hunt but it next to where I can hunt. Guess I'll have to wait and see but I'd feel better if i heard a gobble or two.

huntn4bucks
Re: Went out this morning...help! No free gobblers here TG...sorry. It's been one very tough season for me this year. I scored on one opening day and haven't had much luck since. Saturday (April 30th) is the last day of the season and who knows, maybe things will end just as good as they started. Best of luck! MrWiggely
Re: Went out this morning...help! Remember TG in our neck of the woods the turkey seem to gobble hard one day and are quiet the next. Try again on another day.
