HuntingInMaine
I was listening to the news this morning and heard that the man who spear headed the anti-bear hunting referendum here in Maine is at it again. Maine voted down the bill. The original proposal suggested that baiting, trapping, and hunting bear with dogs should be illegal. It was found that many more would have voted in favor of banning just hunting with dogs and trapping, so this man thinks that he can get a bill voted in that would stop those types of hunting. While I don't personally agree with those techniques either, I certainly won't vote in favor of this just because I worry that it will give them a "foot in the door", so to speak. And that will make it easier and easier to make stricter rules against hunting.
JimT
Re: Maine Bear Hunting Under Attack...Again! When they interviewed him after his defeat he said he was going try try and get them banned one at a time next, in so many words. See what happens I guess. Although I don't agree with baiting, trapping or running dogs for any big game, I wouldn't vote for it though because it would definatley hurt the cause. But, all I ever hear about Maine is all the Bear they have. If that's the case, why would you need to bait, trap or run dogs in the first place. But again, like I said, I wouldn't vote for it because like Huntinginmaine said, it would only give them a "foot in the door" and then they try to ban other things as well. If you think about it though, we do cause alot of this ourselves with some of the "allowances" that we give hunters...JMO

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe it is different in Northern Maine, but I have been hunting and spending a lot of time in the woods for about 4 years now and I have never seen a bear.
