Guest ronin
I took my friend's 14 year old son out for his first and probably last bird of the season because our gun season ends on Sunday. We set up about 200 yards from the roost tree and everything was doin' fine. I had this one Tom all picked out for Chris. The hens were getting anxious and the tom was gobbling. I told Chris what I expected to happen and how he had to prepare for it. Just as the hens flew down...boom, boom, boom, boom. from a tree about 50 yards from us. The hens were still in the air and the Tom wasn't even close to coming down! There is absolutely nobody that is supposed to be on that land so I tracked down the shooters and called 'em out without their guns. These two dirtbags step out and one had the nerve to argue with me on why he had the right to be there. I had to call a patrol in the area to deal with him just so he would pack up his deeks! Once they realized I was very serious, they hit the road and I grabbed the license plate on their hoopty jeep. Unfortunately, they were gone before they could be dealt with. Man, I could not believe the audacity coupled with the attitude! Not only that, shootin' at hens to boot! (Our spring season is visible beard only.) These hens were stll flying and out of range anyway! I sent the plate off to our dispatch and hopefully F&G will take the time to try to contact these idiots. RangerClay
Re: Poachers!!! I hate poachers Nothing screws up a perfectly good day like they do. Did they kill a bird?? Good thing you got their license plate! Be sure not to let it go if F&G seems inlikely to do something. Keep us updated and let us know how you make out! huntn4bucks
Re: Poachers!!! I know exactly what you mean. I caught a poacher on my property earlier this year. I lease some other property and a relative of mine was hunting out there one day and caught a guy hunting on it. The guy told him that property lines don't matter to him if the turkeys are gobbling. Can you believe that?
redbeard
Re: Poachers!!! That's bad. Were you huntin' a private farm?

waterfowler_gal
Re: Poachers!!! Goes to show you how idiotic and stupid people can be. Gives hunters a bad name and makes hunting even more dangerous. Hope they get those guys. Hopefully your friend's son can learn something positive from the situation that there are people out there like that. Glad you guys are safe though. Sorry to hear about this kinda crap-it makes me frustrated. The rules and regulations are there for a reason.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Poachers!!! Pieces of trash is what these (2) losers sound like. To shoot birds on the roost is just plain wrong, being on someone elses land is plain wrong, hope these (2) get caught and get punished. I hate poachers and how they ruin a good set-up for those of us that play by the rules. Lou
Guest ronin
Re: Poachers!!! Thanks for helping me vent y'all! F&G never even called back after I called them twice. I had one of my old beat partners find out who the guys are so they can be dealt with later. The problem is the kid I took hunting will probably not be able to hunt the last two days of the season as I am leaving out of town. Also, those idiots didn't down any birds because they shot from about 80 yards out. But, I'm sure they wounded a least one of the hens. WaCoyote
Re: Poachers!!! I hunted some private land this weekend and the landowners had a road hunter shooting at birds with his 12 year old son on posted private property. The landowner caught him and chewed him out and ran the guy off. He then complained to F&G who set up a Robo Tom. Guess who came by and shot it? Yep, the same guy who was caught with his son roadhunting. They got him this time. Great way to teach your kid ethics. These guys have real balls. There is no way to hide from the landowners because different family memebers the live all over the property. There is practically no way to get away with it. This guy is either very brave or very stupid.
robk
Re: Poachers!!! that's why you you come up on therm and have that 12 g ready to do the talking if need be and since you got their tag i would make sure the wildlife department knows you saw them shooting at hens and get hteir butts thrown in jail and if they come back any time at all make sure you have soem back up and put a roudn or two into their tires and then have them wait forthe patrol rob k that is the first thign i would of done besides calling the police and wild life department i bet they wouldn't get far after that
