Steven
I didn't put this in the turkey hunting room for a simple reason. I wasn't technically hunting- I was driving a Freightliner. Here's the story... It was a cool Wednesday afternoon about halfway between Bowling Green and Elizabethtown, Ky. I'd already been out for about 6 hours and hadn't seen anything- about to call it a day- when it happened. I spotted a Tom working his way across a field (technically a grass median in the interstate, but a field for the sake of the story). He was a pretty good distance away and I thought I'd have no shot, so I just watched him in admiration. As I approached his position business really picked up and he headed my direction. And just like that a pick up truck riding on my left honked a cautious honk of his horn and the Tom took flight barely clearing the pick up but not taking into account the considerable height of a Freightliner. THUD!!! He flew directly into the side of my truck approximately 3 feet behind the driver's door and bounced into the bed of the afore mentioned pick up whose driver sped off with my trophy. My immediate respsonse was "Cool!"- then "Aww man, no pictures"- then "That dude took my turkey"- then it dawned on me to check for damage, which there was none. And for a breif moment I wished he'd hit the windshield so I could at least have pics so y'all will believe me. Trophy: Wild Turkey * Location: Kentucky Beard: Unknown Spurs: Unknown Weight: Unknown Weapon: 2004 Freightliner Century Class Accesories: 53' Great Dane Conventional Trailer (* Animal not recovered)

OJR
Re: Got a turkey! Now Racksie, how much time did you spend trying to flag down the pickup to get your trophy?? Only you could tell a story like that!! LOL!!

Missed160
Re: Got a turkey! I heard that hitting turkeys with vehicle is a lot more dangerous then hitting a deer. They tend to fly about windshield height & go through the windshield like a bowling ball.. Good story though, sounds like a fun HUNT

Shaun_300
Re: Got a turkey! LMAO man thats hilarious! i have two stories similar to that one. we were on our way to Ottawa one time, driving down highway 417, (4-laner) and all of a sudden a partridge flew out from the bush straight for the van. our old van had those hubcaps that were loud when you knocked on them, i think they are made of steel or aluminum. anywho, the bird comes flying out and all of a sudden.... PING!! right into the hubcap. i looked when we got out and there was still some feathers stuck on the hubcap. The next one, we were heading to the Corel Center to see an Ottawa Senators (NHL) game. driving down 417 again, and all of a sudden mom said DUCK!!! dad thought she meant "duck" as in duck your head, but really there was duck flying straight for the front of the van. dad ducked his head down really fast, and i look up and saw this dang male mallard heading straight for the windshield. BANG! it hits the windshield, wow. have you ever saw what a duck looks like after it gets hit at 80mph? i'll never forget those ones! slugshooter
Re: Got a turkey! When I drove for JB Hunt I did a little Dove hunting in Chicago, nailed one with my windshield, I hit a dove when I drove for Schneider also. Also, when I was with JB, I came real close to tagging a Doe down in South Georgia, don't ask me where, it was a little town down in the south west corner og Georgia, right across the river from Alabama. Steven
Re: Got a turkey! Sluggo, now I see why you got tired of driving. Schneider and J.B. are the slowest trucks on the road! The turkey was nothing, I almost took out an Elk cow last July in Wyoming at 3 a.m.. I was looking for a place to stop and get a nap... until then. I was wide awake after that. She walked out onto I-80 on a foggy night and we nearly had an altercation. That would've sucked. Luckily I swerved left and she ran right. Turkeygirl
Re: Got a turkey! Wow, I probably would have been running after that guy. Here's my story, lol! So my sister and I are driving back from college one day when I see some blak sitting on the edge of the road and there is something red on it. We get closer and I say "It's a turkey and it has an arrow stuck out of it!" We stop the car and get out, to find this turkey does not have an arrow with red fletching but a broken wing. It hobbles away from us and we start running after it. It heads towards this hedgerow and my sis goes on one side, I on the other. Here we are running through the snow after this injured turkey. My sister trips on a tree root and lands face first in the snow. I cut across the hedgerow and throw my jacket on top of the turkey which got stuck in a bush. We proudly carry our "trophy" to the car and then home. It did become dinner for us one evening.
