buckee
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER I never split mine. Use a string to tie upthe anus/penis, etc (after cutting around it all) and just pull it through...nice and slick.

Nick
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER Some I do, some I dont. If everything comes out good without splitting it, i dont, but if there is still alot of fatty tissue and stuff in there, i will split it to get that stuff out. But usually i just have to cut around the "butt" and it all pulls out from the inside.

superguide
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER I don't even gut my deer -I quarter them and bone them out right in the bush-my buddy showed me how after a caribou hunt he was on up north-in about 20 minutes you can have a 200 lb buck quartered and boned out and ready to pack out. When I used to gut I did split it most times though.
Jeramie
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER Negative... I dont split it either. My brother does but I never have. Once I hang the deer and zip it open gravity does the rest. I just do the final clean up with everything that is stuck in the back.
fisherguy
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER I don't on deer, i have always been able to get it done fine without splitting it. Moose i do because we usually quarter them in the field anyway.
Ohiobucks
Re: WHEN FIELD DRESSING YOUR DEER We don't split the pelvis. First cut we make is circling the anus, then zipper from the brisket to the legs, pull out all the guts through the zipper cut just made, including the intestines still attached to the anus. Works like a charm every time. My buddy has gotten this perfected, he can field dress a deer in 0.08 seconds......
