Bad day in Pa....

I here you about the rain. As soon as I set up it POURED. I had water running off the tree above me like it was a hose under pressure tongue.gif I had 3 birds gobble ...........even in the rain. But some bone head heard them also.........walked up the hill straight into them while they were on roost......IN THE FULL LIGHT OF MORNING!!! mad.gif Of course they flew off roost, over the valley below and onto property that I can't hunt. At this point the other hunter walked back from where he came.

I had a fox come in & stalk my decoys...until he almost walked into my lap & jumped out of his skin, beating it back for cover LOL grin.gif

I then had a lone hen come in and feed around theecoys wondering why they would not join her. By 10:30am I was soaked to the bone and called it quits.

I can only get out Saturdays. So I am done for a week.

Re: Bad day in Pa....

Pretty much the same results we had...wet and no birds. I tried every call I had with me at some point of the day...nothing. We didn't hear a gobble at all...heard one other hunter...thats it.

Can't get out Mon. (gotta take the dog to the vet) but I'll give it heck the rest of the week. grin.gif

Re: Bad day in Pa....

Same story here. I had a red fox come busting towards my decoys at about 9, thats all the action I got. I didnt hear or see a thing which didnt surprise me because they have been really shut up around my neck of the woods for a week and a half. But I've got almost every day to hunt next week so hopefully the birds fire up a little bit.

Re: Bad day in Pa....

Had a great morning other than the gobblers were just out of range. I had a couple choices of places to set up........I picked the wrong one. All the hens flew down and I called them right to me but the gobblers all went a bit higher. They were strutting and gobbling up a storm.....just a bit out of range. I imagine those boys will be in some danger before the season ends.

Re: Bad day in Pa....

My father and I went out in the RAIN! We went for breakfast and took out time getting out due to the rain. This was our mistake! Once we got to our hunting area, we heard a single gobbler! He only gobbled twice too! My dad went to the right I went to the left, never seen or heard from him again. I was really surprised to hear one that day, although it wasnt rainning when we got there. It started POURING once we got on the move! Did have a hen run accross the road in front of the truck on the way home on a back road! LOL!

Re: Bad day in Pa....

The score for round one is: Tommy Three Toes = 1

Bruce =0

Went out around 6 a.m, because I overslept frown.gif, heard some gobbling from the roost so I set up and had one going for about 45 minutes but he just wouldn't come within range. He just kept strutting back and forth on an old woods road and wouldn't approach closer than 60 yards or so and I never did get a glimpse of him. Had to break it off around 7:30 and head to work so I just let him go. I believe he met up with some hens and headed in the other direction so I quietly backed out and will return to do battle another day. I now know the range of his strut area and will set up a little closer and earlier next time around.
