waterfowler_gal
So I had a rough turk experience with the pump in South Dakota. I should of brought the semi-auto instead. I had the turkey doing the body flop on the ground so I was celebrating when the party wasn't over. I figured he was finshing his final movements and he gets up. Go to reload "click-click" look down-stick my thumb and push the empty shell out that was stuck in the chamber. I finished loading and he was already over the top of the ridge. I pumped it pretty hard too. So............... Yeah I am salty and if I would of killed him with one shot I wouldn't had to worry about this either. Operater malfunction and gun malfunction. Oh the memories I have embedded in my mind.

carbonhunter
Re: Mossberg 835 yup, dont know hom much experiance you have with pumps, but getting used to the full pump, especially with the juices flowing can be tough.

too_pointer
Re: Mossberg 835 So gal, I take it you lost that turk ? Did he run or fly away ? I have seen them take off after putting an arrow threw, just to find them dead aways away. Bummer though too-
LifeNRA
Re: Mossberg 835 Last year I fired three shots through my 835 at a turk! All three rounds made it clear from the reciever. One thing my father always said, dont baby the pump! CYCLE IT! It was tough at first, because even on the 500 I owned I was affraid I would break it. But it never broke, so even now being 42. I cycle that pump good enough to eject that spent shell a good five feet. I do this not knowing it most times!
WaCoyote
Re: Mossberg 835 Thats a real bummer! I've done it before but not on turkeys. At least with ducks or geese you know you'll get another chance. I feel for you. The first bird I ever shot hit the ground, I celebrated, then it flew away. I definately know how you feel! slaw
Re: Mossberg 835 You have to jack it with authority
hutchies
Re: Mossberg 835 I only need one shot. Unless there are 2 or more birds. I pump it hard anyway. Even on previous guns I had. I only take shots that I fell comfortable with. This season shot 2 deer, 2 turkey, 1 Hog and have only used one shot on each.
Tominator
Re: Mossberg 835 Don't think I've ever shor-shucked a pump, my adrenaline usually jacks that round out pretty quick, then again, the Ithaca action is world's better than any other action that I've ever cycled--JMHO. I have on occasion tried to jack an empty shell out of my Benelli auto, and my O/U thinking that I was carrying my 870 or Ithaca, or Dan Arms. Usually takes a Polish second to realize actions on an O/U and autoloader don't cycle like a pump.

spyderpancake
Re: Mossberg 835 anytime i shoot a turkey, i run over to him, step on his head, and if he is still kicking, stick my knife in the back of his head. as you have seen, they are tough and can get away from you.
