VermontHunter
Just a little filling in here....Tommarrow is our opener here in Vermont so VTBowman and I took a little ride to the wifes uncle's property, so he could meet the wifes uncle and get a layout of the land, and while we were there we got a pair of young hens quite anxious... ,,,,the rain and wind isn't being too coperative but with any luck just maybe I will get lucky on a Tom to report.....wish me luck, I'll need it I'm a rookie at this Turkey game.. But I know where they are and I'm one heck of a shot so I would say 2 out of 3 isn't bad ,,,but I'd gladly trade the 2 for some experience anyday.... VTbowman
Re: Vermont\'s Opener Sunday Well I am at work for the 1st four days of our season and Luke is right, one heck of a farm, and his uncle had us both drooling over the birds he sees every day. BUT To make matters worse, after I dropped Luke off, I went past my father-in-laws farm as its directly between Lukes house and mine. Low and behold, aint there be a big ole tom right out in my in-laws corn piece. I stop to glass him from the truck and see a nice long beard. Then he walks right into a island of thick cedars that so easy to get to. So now I know exactly where there is a tom roosted for opening day, and I have to work. Figures... But it gets better. On my way to work my wife calls me to tell me a nice tom just walked out of the my woods not more the 50 yards from my front door. Can it get any worse? I suppose I would have to work all week long. Luckily its only until Wednesday before I can go after them birds. Good Luck LUKE!

VermontHunter
Re: Vermont\'s Opener Sunday Well folks big dummy rookie me went and blew the opening day.... ,,I setup in the wrong spot to start off and by the time I figured that out it was way too late, the Toms were strutting the meadow with the hens, limiting my movement, I could only manage to get to about 60yrds. and that was it...So I said do or die and tried to move in ,,,,yep you know it BUSTED,,,, I thought I would have a chance on a young jake not wanting to leave empty handed and that bugger also busted me before I took 3 steps....MAN I NEED SOME EXPERIENCE,just not this kind....
