Score one for the Gobbler Getters!

Well after yet another morning of NO gobbles, I decided it was time to make something happen. I walked to the far corner of the new hot spot I got for this year and threw a call out for any turkeys to hear. The response was amazing! At about 200 yards, at least 2 gobblers returned my call. I dropped to a near by tree and began working the Alumistrut Raspy Ol' Hen (the greatest mouth diaphram known to man) and threw in a few clucks on a Freak Power Crystal. Every 2 - 3 minutes the boys would give me feedback on thier position. 15 minutes into calling I see a hen pop over the hill in the woods not 30 yards from me. Then the thunder of multiple gobblers bellowed just beyond my sight over the rise in the hill. I about wet my pants. Then one red head, then another, then another. Just as I'm drawing a bead on the lead gobbler, the third one in line goes to full strut. Then a 4th red head appears. When the strutter dropped his feathers, I dropped the hammer on the 870 and let a load of 3 1/2" #5's do the job Winchester intended them to do. Instantly, two of the other gobblers pounced on my downed bird. I started cutting on my diaphram and the three remaining birds put on a show like no other. Finally, I had to scare them off to retrieve my trophy for 2005.

19 pounds, 9 3/4" beard, & 7/8" spurs. Not my biggest bird to date, but good enough to make this turkey hunter happy. smirk.gif

I know I said I was going bow only this year, but I felt like a run and gun day when I rolled out of bed, so I grabbed the ol' familiar 870. My bow kill dreams will just have to wait another year.

Here is me and my future hunters with my bird.
