Inside NEXTEL Cup...Waltrip's Comment

Anyone catch INC last night/this morning? Waltrip had a very good idea for Daytona/Talladega.

Don't put a bumper in the car. The nose is so crucial to going fast there. If you don't have a bumper, you can't bump draft. If you do, your nose will be all torn up. Not bad thinking.

Good idea, but what about impact in a crash ? Doesnt the bumper absorb some of the impact ? What happens in the pits when you get into the back of soemone ? We might see very little racing if the drivers want to baby their bumpers.

I say the heck with it, lets just put trailer hitches on the cars and let em hook up that way.

Not really. They install braces up front to support the nose. There is a gap between the impact location vs. the sheetmetal support.

If they don't want the cars to go too fast, then change the track. Maybe add an inward dogleg so they aren't wide-open all the way around. The track is just too big for the technology now. Right now, it's not racin if you need a draft pack to pass. confused.gif

Guys if you took the plates off the cars the cars would literally fly out of the track if they were to turn around at 220MPH. The roof flaps couldn't open up fast enough.

You need to get a tire that drivers have to respect and one that wears out and requires (4) new ones during a pit stop. This splash and go for gas means the tires are very durable and track position is everything. You put them on a sofer tire that will make the cars faster but one that will take some saving for the right time you will see better racing. More horsepower isn't the answer as the speed is too much and NASCAR has to consider the fan's safety as well as the drivers. Limit the tire, play with the spoiler and put the driving back into the cars.

Remember back to the 2004 Daytona 500? Sure it was a great race because Junior made an awesome pass and won, but that was the softest tire they've run at Daytona. I was happy Junior won, but the racing was terrible. Single file break-aways. And the plates made it so you couldn't pass without help.

Rusty Wallace ran an experiment at Dega last year without a restrictorplate abd went 229. No way they could race like that. I think maybe they should go to a small V6.

[/ QUOTE ] Good idea. Dodge has a 3.9 l pushrod v6, GM has a 3.8l pushrod v6, and ford has a 3.8l pushrod v6. Why not utilize those blocks and let them race unrestricted?

The easy way to fix those tracks is to take off the front air dam and rear spoiler, once that is done the driver would have to lift going into the turns. The racing would be awsone because it would be on the driver to drive the car.
