waterfowler_gal
Well they decided to bring in the federal sharp shooters to Minnesota to take care of a large population of the Cormorants who are effecting the walleye population..... http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=94502
Missed160
Re: GOOD-BYE CORMORANTS It's about time!!! Those things are getting out of control. It's not they're fault, they just eat everything & nothing controls their populations.

[/ QUOTE ] Evidently the DNR in Minnesota ain't too bright. I'd bet there are folks up there that'd pay money for a license to go shoot the goofy things...............generate some revenue for the state and local economies. Now if they'd do the same thing here in PA with the hawks and owls 'cause they're affecting the small game population.............

Said that for awhile, but can remember the guy several years ago who shot some 150 raptors on his ranch for that reason. Fined the crap out of him and he had to right an apology that was posted in the back of Upland Almanac, Shooting Sportsman, and other outdoor mags. VABuckSlayer
Re: GOOD-BYE CORMORANTS They need to be thinned out here in VA too. One of the places I fish is loaded with them. We need to do something! Eric
Missed160
Re: GOOD-BYE CORMORANTS Leech lake is pretty populated with cabins, so I don't think they want a bunch of people out shooting them & send bullets flying towards shore without thinking who is on the other end.. The island where these things are nesting is a total mess. The cormorants are on little Leech island, probably 10 acres. The trees & undergrowth are dead, gone. If you try & fish by the island, the smell is so bad your eyes water. It is just gross. They need to keep their population controlled. Glad they are doing it.
