TreeStandBowHunter
I have the old summit viper. I hate the foot straps and I am seeing these Rapid Stirrups. Does anyone have any. I am willing to buy them if they are worth it. The only problem is that they look like your feet would slip out of them when going up and especially down
Chrud
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I didn't like the Stirrups near as much as the original straps. They always came loose while climbing and didn't give me the control that the old straps did.
Guest DaveGP
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups well crap,,, i put the stirrups on my stand but didnt have another chance to use them last season so i have yet to try them out!
Chrud
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I should have said more about the control "issue" I had with them. My biggest problem was pulling away from the tree and lifting up or lowering the platform. It felt like it was just hanging there and would fall at any second. Guest agdexter
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I used them all last season. I like them. A **** of a lot easier getting into and out of than the straps. Made for a quicker climb. They are not expensive give them a try. When you look at them, you say they are going to bust, but they don't. Summit makes good stuff. I'm glad they invented them. agdexter
JimT
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I like them. I do not have a problem climbing with them at all. They are way better than the straps on my API Bowhunter.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I put them on mine last year and like them a lot. They are a lot esier than fumbling with the straps and bungees. You just hang the stand, climb on, and slip your feet in.I bought mine at Bass Pro for around 20 bucks if I remember right. TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups Look, I don't have them yet so I can't say anything. But I must side with CHRUD here on the stability of them. By just looking at them, it looks like your feet would fall out of them pretty easy while climbing. At least with the foot straps, I know my feet are not going to fall out. I just can't stand fumbling with the foot straps thats why I started to think about the stirrups. huntn4bucks
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I guess you have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Your assumption is right (at least in my opinion)...you have a little less control of the stand when using the stirrups vs the straps. I really like the quickness of the stirrups...especially when wearing "big" boots. I added the stirrups to my stand last season and left the straps on there as well. I did not use the straps at all all last season...I solely used the stirrups. I guess what I'm saying is the stirrups' ease of use outweighs the slight loss of control...at least for me anyways. Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I have an older Summit climber and I hated the straps, but I had a lot of concerns about the new stirrups. So, what I did was remove the straps, but leave the small bungie that hits the back of your boots. Then, I took a heavy duty bungie cord and attached it to the outside bar on the bottom of the platform using a cable tie and camo duct tape. Then, I streatched it vertically as tight as I could and attached it to the angling riser bar (that houses the cable), again using a cable tie and camo duct tape. I did this on each side of the climber. This forms a small triangle hole that you can easily slide your foot into and then hook your heel on the existing boot bungie. Your foot can not go anywhere and the tight bungies allow you to used different sizes of boots. It is a secure solution and there is nothing over the platform to impeed your foot placement while on stand.
Chrud
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups The Stirrups might be easier to get in and out of, BUT depending on what boot type you wear, say a typical hunting boot one week and a pac boot the next, you'd have to adjust them. There may be a couple advantages, but not enough to buy them as an add-on. JMO.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups i bought em last year and put them on mine....way better than the straps...didn't see any control issues with it at all feet didn't feel like they were slipping out either. i would recommend them over those straps any day
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups Thanks everyone. I guess I flip a coin now Seems 50-50 in here. I might get them and if I don't like them, I sell them . Although being 50-50, I won't hurry and buy them like I was going to do only to sit and wait till deer season I sorta like BHD's answer. I already done about 5 modifications to that stand already
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups My way is pretty slick. I had doubts when I first did it. I wish I could claim it's invention. I saw it on a board on the internet. Might have even been this one. If you need to see some pictures, let me know. I'll dig out my stand and take some. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups i think last year someone posted pics of the way derek is talkin about.. (might have been him..not sure ) but i must say its a pretty good way of making your own...if i hadn't bought my stirrups for my stand already i would have done that.... Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups I'll see if I can't pull the climber down out of the barn tonight and snap a couple pictures. I'll write up a discription on how I did it. You might want to try it before you spend money on the stirrups. I'm sure you can dig up a bungie you don't mind scrapping, so the project is virtually free. I'll post it soon.
paul23
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups Yea I did what you did with the bungie cord last year and it works great. It's a awesome hint.
NYBUCK
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups Chrud, I like you and most of the time I agree with you but not this time ... LOL I put the styrups on last year and absolutely love them. Yes you have to tighten the wing nuts good but make sure you leave the bungie cords. I don't see anyway you can slip out of them. The styrups come over your boots real well and I have never had a problem. They are so so so so much easier and I believe safer than the straps. Get them, for $19 you can't go wrong. Chrud
Re: Summit Climber Rapidclimb Stirrups They were always pretty loose on my feet. When they felt comfortable to climb with, my feet were way out towards the end of the platform. The biggest thing I didn't like about them is the bungie cord behind them. Derek's idea sounds real good. Something to keep your feet in tight.
