Bow Hunter Derek
Ok, here is the alternative (have to credit someone else to this design, not me) to the traditional foot straps or the improved stirrups for the Summit tree stands. I'm sure it will work on other stands as well. I hunted all fall with this set up and it works great, regardless if you were light or bulky boots. Here is how to do this. Take a heavy duty bungie cord and tie a knot in one end. Then wire tie the bungie to the bottom outside frame member of the stand as seen in the photo. The knot keeps the bungie from pulling through the wire tie. You will want to melt the cut end of the bungie with a lighter to keep it from freying too bad. If you want more security, wrap the knot and wire tied area with a duct tape product. Then pull the bungie tight verically and mark where you need to tied another knot for the top frame member. Let it down and tie a knot. Then stretch it up and wire tie the bungie to the top (angling) frame member. Cut the excess bungie and burn the end. This connection will have to be duct taped, or the connection will want to slide down the frame member. When you are all done, you will have a triangle formed that you can stick your foot into. Repeat for the other side of the stand. Be sure to leave the Summit bungie on the stand that secures your heals. The result is an easy in and out, yet secure climbing system for your stand. Of course, you need to use common sense and all normal safety precautions when you climb. I am not saying that your feet can not slip out of this set up, but in my opinion, it is as secure if not more secure than the endorsed Summit options for your feet. Again, climb at your own risk! Here are some pictures of my set up.
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Alternate to Summit Stirrups Hey thanks for the loyal work on getting that done for me. I appreciate it. I think I am going to do that over the weekend. Looks pretty easy. I have a lot of bungees laying around so that isin't a problem. I'll let you know how I make out and take some pics for you. BTW, I see that you got those non-skid tape strips also. I could't stand my feet squeaking anymore when they were wet

So what your saying is when I do this and climb 20ft in the tree and fall out and crack my thinking cap, I can't hold you responsible

WNY_Whitetailer
Re: Alternate to Summit Stirrups Hmmm....Looks like a neat idea and cheaper than buying the stirrups to update my Viper Extreme XL...
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: Alternate to Summit Stirrups I may try that! I don't mind the old way, i just don't like the bungee and strap under my boots. I had it make noise while i was standing. Post some more pics, if someone has it modified a little more
hunter_mike
Re: Alternate to Summit Stirrups I dont use the stirrups or any thing at all. I just hook my feet under the support bars and thats it. Its awkward at first but after a while its works really good.
