Strut10
Walked up on a buck and a doe feeding yesterday, late morning. I glassed them and the buck had about 2-3" nubs starting. He appeared to be a 2 1/2 year deer. Just not a real big one.

longislandhunter
Re: Saw my first velvet of the year I've seen lots of deer lately but nothing with any horns of any size. I'm gonna keep on looking though.
Tominator
Re: Saw my first velvet of the year Good deal Don. I've yet to see velvet, except for maybe a dead one I saw on the road a couple weeks ago.
iron buck
Re: Saw my first velvet of the year I had 3 young bucks in velvet walk past me at 20 yards while turkey hunting the other mornng. One looked to be a 2 1/2 year old. The other 2 were both smaller.

Tominator
Re: Saw my first velvet of the year I saw an injured, last year fawn, with about 1" of velvet nubbin poppin out on the right side of his head. The left side was already real small, or non-existent as near as I could tell. I think maybe the injury had something to do with it.
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Saw my first velvet of the year Tominator, most likely the fawn is trying to stay alive rather than grow antlers. Staying alive is probably it's #1 priority.
