Re: Public or private????

I hunt on both public and private and see just about the same amount of deer on both. I prefer hunting on the private land most of the time simply because I know who else might be there and where their stand sites are so we don't get in each others way. The public land gets a little crowded at times.

I hunt the local club property in Auburn, Pa and see maybe a total of 15 deer in the two week season. We go out the first three days and then the two Saturdays.

Mainly private. First buck I shot was on public land though.

The public land around here is too pressured for my taste. Deer are more relaxed on private land. And so am I!!!!!!!!

Re: Public or private????

I only hunt private land now. Been that way for about 20 years. It just got to where there were too many encounters with inconsiderate yahoos on public land down here. From the guys that I talk to that still hunt public land the yahoos are a lot worse than they used to be. I'm definately seeing more deer and more mature deer on private land than I ever saw on public land.

Re: Public or private????

i hunt private land... that being said we end up sharing all of the private land we find to hunt on ... i used to hunt other private land that backed up a LOT of peoples backyards and a LOT of people trespass. no one had permission but 3 of us and we would always see people out who shouldnt be... the worst is we would see 1 guy with his 2 kids out trying to stalk deer! and he knew he shouldnt be there because he would run when he saw us. lol way to teach the kids. our public land here isnt bad during bow season i hear but a lot of antis walk around to deter hunters. i hope to one day own my own piece of heaven!

Re: Public or private????

A good point has been made here. Not all private land is that much different from public land. Where the private land is wide open to public access, there really is no difference. There is also some public land that is so vast that it doesn't see the pressure that some private lands see.

Where do you hunt at most? How succesful are you comparing public to private land?See more deer on public or private?

Thankfully I hunt on private land & its a ton of deer where I hunt. The problem is the hunters where I hunt, they drive dogs and many of them don't care about antler size. They shoot any buck that moves.

I wouldn't dare hunt on public land here in SC. Our antler restrictions are too liberal & people are blasting away on public land to.

When not hunting on my OWN LAND I normally hunt on private property of family friends. Have (rarely) hunted on public land, but public hunting land is far and few between here in Indiana. I normally see more game on private property.
