THE MARINES FINAL INSPECTION

If you are or have ever been a Soldier, Airmen or a Sailor, just put yourself in the Marines place....it all means the same. This is dedicated to the Marines from 3rd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment that gave their life the last few days in Western Iraq

THE MARINES FINAL INSPECTION

The Marine stood and faced God,

Which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining,

Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you Marine,

How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To My Church have you been true?"

The Marine squared his shoulders and said,

"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.

Because those of us who carry guns,

Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,

And at times my talk was tough.

And sometimes I've been violent,

Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,

That wasn't mine to keep...

Though I worked a lot of overtime,

When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,

Though at times I shook with fear.

And sometimes, God, forgive me,

I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,

Among the people here.

They never wanted me around,

Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,

It needn't be so grand.

I never expected or had too much,

But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was a silence all around the throne,

Where the saints had often trod.

As the Marine waited quietly,

For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you Marine,

You've borne your burdens well.

Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,

You've done your time in ****."

Remember, it is the Marine, not the reporter Who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the Marine, not the poet, Who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the Marine Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, and Whose coffin is draped by the flag, who

allows the protester to burn the flag.

Please pray for our men and women currently serving our country and pray for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom

Re: THE MARINES FINAL INSPECTION

i got chills also. that's beautifully written.

we've all lost brothers in this war. i know i have. they will be missed dearly. they were good men. i've felt guilty every day i think about them and how i wasn't there with them. many times i've picked up the phone to go, but haven't taken the responsibility to go again.

i'm always afraid that by the time i get there it'll all be over.

Rest peacefully brothers.

Thanks Marine, I have seen this one but for the Army, I know that there is one for every branch but it still hold true.

I am glad that there is enough of us that remember that others will not forget!
