mouth calls?

I agree. Its not easy at 1st.

I got the Primos CD and it came with 3 different calls and it has helped a lot. I can not do every sound but have well over 3/4 of them down.

The one thing the CD does is to give you reference words to make each sound.

However it fails to say, enough anyways, that your not suppose the actually "say" those reference words but instead move your mouth and jaw the same way as you would while saying those words.

For example, they tell you to say the word "chalk" to do a yelp. Your suppose to make your jaw drop for the 2nd part of the yelp or word chalk. But do not try to vocalize the actual word, but instead just move your jaw.

Your not suppose the make ANY vocal cord sounds at all, more or less just vibrate your cords for some sounds and move your jaw accordingly.

Different tones are caused by the pressure of your tounge against the reeds, the amount of air, and how hard or soft the air flows is between the tounge and reeds. Then its a matter of learning the cadence for each sound.

Also, its very very important to get a call that fits up into the roof of your mouth, or pallet, since your trying to get air to pass between your tounge and the reeds of the call. If it goes over the call too then you will not get sound or good sound if you do.

My problen was out of 10 diaphram calls I have bought, only 2 fit me correctly. 1 of which had to be a youth size frame.

Most of them do not fit between my teeth so they are on a very steep angle and away from the roof of my mouth. I can get some sounds but not all of them with those calls that do not quite fit right.

Some guys have a wider upper jaw tooth spacing, side to side, but not a long or deep enough mouth, front to back, so the tape can gag you.

You might want to try trimming the sides first, about 1/32" to 1/16" at a time and then if it still gags then trim around the back of it.

Other then that your on your own. LOL

Good Luck!

Re: mouth calls?

I tell ya, I am no pro. I just bought my Primos mouth calls this spring.

But I have a 45 minute commute, one way, to work and a CD player in the truck.

I swear I get some funny looks at the stop lights. LOL

Its all about practice, pratice, and more pratice.

I play that CD every place I go and got my 4 year old daughter asking to hear it too. How cute she is trying to mimic Wil Primos demonstrations. LOL

I still use friction calls too but using them together I got 2 hens talkin about sweet loving for some luck Tom. LOL

You can do it.

Maybe not every single call but I bet ya any money within a few days of playin around with it and listening to the CD over and over again. You finally start to get the tones and cadence right.

It only takes a few different sounds to sweet talk a bird. Or so I am told...

LOL

Good Luck!
