Guest Andrea
Okay...I gotta ask this. What is your favorite exotic dish? I have tried Emu and Ostrich and that's about as exotic as I have gotten. The ostrich steak was far better than ANY beef steak I have tasted. And emu is great. Very very similar to venison. It also makes fantastic jerky. And if exotic to you is raccoon and possum, fine. Let me know all about it.

Guest Andrea
Re: Favorite exotic dish???? Armadillo???? Possum?? What did they taste like? And please don't say chicken. And brown beans over choc. cake? Now I might try that. But explain that one too. And your grasshoppers and ants were cooked? Were you in America at the time? fisherguy
Re: Favorite exotic dish???? deer kidney...not a fan personally. Moose testicle...almost puked from the thought as i chewed, taste was good. Alligator...was like really tough pork. Beaver...(keep your minds out of the gutter) the younger ones are tender, and have a nice mild taste. Older ones taste way too strong, greasy, and tough. Ummm...live minnows....well thankfully i don't really remember the taste on that one. lol

[/ QUOTE ] The armadillo tasted like old stringy jackrabbit. Possum tasted just about like you'd think - greasy. The beans and cake is an old family tradition. Not sure where it came from, but its really pretty good when you try it. The insects were made into a type of candy. The ants were chocolate covered and the grasshoppers were glazed. hutchies
Re: Favorite exotic dish???? Dad told me a story a few weeks ago about my great grandmother. She was in the peace corp and traveled to some overseas country. I think India. Anyway she said the whole village was starving and that cats were running around everywhere. One night she snagged one up and killed it, cleaned it, and cooked it over a fire and she said the locals were looking at her like she was crazy when she started eating it. Finally one of them tried it and then all of them wanted some. Anyway Dad said she went back to the same village again 2 years later and the people were still starving but no cats around. Had some monkey meat years ago down in Central America while in the military, was actually pretty good, enjoyed it. One of my favorite meats is barbequed woodchuck, prefer the smaller ones over the adults though.
