2nd season hunting turkeys and I thought I had it going on. smirk.gif

Been praticing big time with different types of calls, got all outfitted, shot gun hitting dead nuts at 40 yards.

Now all I need to to locate some birds. crazy.gif

Pretty much have full run of a nice big farm that has birds too. cool.gif

But I have yet to hear one in 2 weeks of hunting. mad.gifmad.gifmad.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

How do you hunt silent turkeys without tripping over them and spooking them out of the area? confused.gif

Thanks.

If your having it that rough...I would forget hunting for a day and figure them out..Or at least try to? Bring your gun of course just in case....But I would run and gun for sure.

When the birds won't respond to a call and/or are really inactive, we've come up with a great way to hunt them.....

Get in the truck, turn on the radio and go for a ride. grin.gif Keep the speed under 20 MPH too. grin.gif

I like Chruds idea,,atleast you stay warm that way... grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Man I'm telling ya, I know they have to be there, but they aren't showing themselves at all....the sightings have been very speratic.... confused.gifconfused.gif

The opening weekend seemed to be the only time they have gobbled at all...we've even tried to hunt them down by going after them well after daylight..

Shawn and I are more confused as what to do more than anything,,,and I thought Whitetail hunting was a handfull these birds are just plain cagey and elusive... confused.gifconfused.gif

Look for fresh sign on your property. Tracks, scratching and droppings. Set up and be patient. If they have been spending a lot of time in an area it's likely they will return. However it's hard to say exactly when.

There may be a lot of breeding going on right now. That would explain the lack of gobbling activity. Also hunt later in the day if you can. When birds are tight lipped in the morning they will often gobble more in the late morning or the afternoon.

Man, I heard more gobbling this year than ever before.. sorry you didn't. The bird I called in and shot must of gobbled to my calls 150 times in 20 minutes or so... triple gobbles.. he was goin off! That was last Friday morning.. I wish I was still hunting.

I've heard 18 total gobbles, all while at our house. Nothing is gobbling around here. Turkeys aren't as active either.
