Re: This Hits Close To Home

Alot of those are the 3rd Battalion 25th Marine Regiment Marines that you are seeing in the Casualty Thread. They fall under the 25th Marine Regiment that I am at. Their Battalion is actually out of Brookpark, Ohio. I am not sure where all the companies are scattered though. I can't release them until they are released by the DOD...usually a couple days later.

Re: This Hits Close To Home *Update*

Jamie is fine, very tired, but fine.

I guess they brought some sort of satellite phone out to Lima company and they let all the Marines call home.

I guess Jamie called my buddy's daughter and relayed that he was fine, but all he wanted to talk about was his buddy Beau. (Beau got medavaced to Maryland, but looks like he'll be OK).

Turns out, Jamie was one of the guys that went into the building to pull the Marine out of there, and he was the one who dragged Beau to safety.

I don't know too much about medal write ups, and not that it would matter to Jamie at all (just the kind of guy he is), but I'd bet he gets at least a Bronze Star for his actions. He's one heck of a hero in my book, and I'm proud to say I know him.

Thanks for the prayers folks.

Depends on the situation but I would say there is a chance and with a situation like this, he would warrant the Combat "V". These are the guidelines for the Bronze Star:

a. Authorization. E. O. 11046, 24 August 1962.

b. Eligibility requirements

1. Awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity with the armed Forces of the United States, distinguishes himself after 6 December 1941, by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in arial flight.

(a) while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States;

(b) while engaged in military operation involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or

© while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed forces in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

(2) To justify this decoration, accomplishment or performance of duty above that normally expected, and sufficient to distinguish the individual among those performing comparable duties is required, although less than the requirements for the Silver Star or Legion of Merit. Minor acts of heroism in actual combat, single acts of merit or meritorious service connection with military or naval operations may justify this award.

c. Combat Distinguishing Device. The Combat Distinguishing Device may be authorized.

Thanks TSBH. From everything we're hearing, he warrants it. According to my buddy at work, Jamie led the way in to get Beau out, and he did it without regard for his safety, I guess he just went in and did it without thinking about it.

You're right, it does depend on the situation, and I'm hearing these stories and accounts 3rd hand, but I have no reason to believe they aren't true.

NO disrespect intended, but: That line just jumped out at me -MINOR acts of heroism................sounds like an Oxymoron to me! How can you have a MINOR act of heroism? shocked.gif I think I know what they mean, but to see MINOR and HEROISM in the same sentence looks strange!

THose brave men and women putting their butts on the line for us are ALL heroes to me!!!!!! cool.gif
