Squirrelhunter91
Well guys, today after me and my dad got back from turkey hunting, I jumped on the computer and my dad went into the yard. Then I hear him yelling, Joe, open up as he was knocking on the back door. He says, get your pellet gun, I just saw a chipmunk under the feeder, it ran into the woods. I go ok. I grab my gun and my Beman Crow Magnum Pellets. I go outside and ask my dad where the little bugger is. To which my dad replied, right there at the base of the tree, right where you shot the one last year with the slingshot. I knew exactly where that was, I rested the gun on the edge of the fence, took aim, 15 yards away, put the scope on 4X, put the crosshairs on his heart/lung area, took my safety off and shot. I missed! I watched the pellet hit the ground just over his back. The chipmunk did not even flinch. I couldn't believe it, so I loaded another one in my Winchester 1000x and repeated the process. But this time, my dad brought be out a camo stool to sit on. I set the stool up, and then said, darn, I suck at offhand shooting. But I went for it anyway. I aimed and shot, that thing just rolled over right on the spot. It didn't flinch, twitch or anything, it just rolled over once and never moved again. The shot went about an inch to the left. It was a quartering away shot with the chipmunk facing right. The pellet went in behind his rib cage on the right side and exited out in front of his left shoulder blade. You can see the entry hole in the pics. Entry Hole: Here is where you can see the exit hole in front of the left shoulder blade:

RangerClay
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS No thanks Take that pellet gun and shoot a woodchuck or something more challenging. That's what I used to do when I was your age.

RangerClay
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS Just checked with my local DEC officials and they informed me shooting chipmunks is not illegal in NY. However I will quote their response, "Sounds like counseling them on respect to our fellow-inhabitants of this earth are the only safeguards for "Chip and Dale" Ranger
fisherguy
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS Oops, my mistake. BUt yes, why would you shoot a chipmunk? They don't damage stuff like squirrels, you don't eat them, and lastly they are cute.
MadHuntinPastor
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS COME ON!! I read this and it sounds like a PETA forum!! How many of us have shot a fox/raccoon/sparrow/coyote/rats/squirrel/chipmunk or whatever and not eaten it??? You all are saying the same things they say about us for deer hunting. Maybe he stuffs them or sells the pelts?? Maybe they have way too many of them or they are nesting under a living structure. Well regardless, I say good shot squirrelbuster. I know I would love to get a couple of those little guys mounted and put them in my study.

RangerClay
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS Yes this does read like a PETA forum and I can see the quote now "Hunters Killing Chipmunks For Pleasure" or "See What Hunters Teach Their Kids". I can see the PETA freaks running wild with this kinda stuff. You know just as well as I do that they read our forums for propaganda!!!!!! Did I ever kill a chipmunk? Sure, last year but he was living in my garage and raiding my garbage. I wasn't baiting them in the front yard for pleasure. Have we ever killed something that wasn't eaten? Sure, I can think of many woodchucks that I have tossed in hedge row for the next fox that comes along. But woodchucks cause crop and property damage. My wife had a load of hay tip over when it hit a woodchuck hole the summer we met. Correct me if I am wrong but but this is a varmint room. They are varmints for a reason. Usually a bad one. That is why we don't post pictures of dead robins here. If the chipmunks were raiding the feeder or causing some sort of damage that may be different. MHP I know the earlier posts may make us sound soft but we are asking him to make different choice other than a small "cute" animal that could make us all look bad. MadHuntinPastor
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS I hear what you are saying Ranger and your last post explains to squirrelbuster much better why the ridiculing. However, I still say PETA would say all animals are cute and cuddly and we shouldn't shoot them. Most of us are meat hunters on here, but I am also a trophy hunter. I took a fox and racoon and have them hung on my wall. It wasn't my land and they weren't hurting me and I didn't eat them. Well in my opinion, shootin one of those fast little boogers with a pellet gun and/or a sling shot is pretty cool. Not the easiest thing to do. As a hunting family we need to guard against those mindsets of the PETA. Let them see the pics of a dead chipmunk. It was legally done. I'll defend squirrelbuster's right and anyone else's to continue. I certainly won't adopt the if it's "cute and isn't hurting you" philosophy. As a group, we were pretty quick to jump down his throat. This is a hunting site and my bet is squirrelbuster had a good reason. If they have a small vegetable garden then that is reason enough for me. Let's give him the benefit of doubt.....after all......he's on our side. PAhardwoods
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS WOW I'm amazed by this.....I didnt wanna say anything about this but i think now maybe a good time Just a couple weeks ago I remember reading something in the lounge about trouble with squrriels even a video of a grey squirrle getting sent through the air....yet when i look back at that post i dont see anybody jumpin down anyones throat actually i see people giving advice on how to kill them and laughin it up about that lil bugger getting sent in the air even a cute little cartoon picture of bugsbunny .....well heres a new's flash killing squrriels unless it is in season is called poaching. its a game animal and there are laws to protect it once again didnt see a word about that being wrong or anybody worrying about what peta would think about that yet people are quick to jump down Squirrelhunter's neck for something that isnt even against the law...dosent make much sense to me.....actually the word that pops into my head is hypocrite cody
Squirrelhunter91
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS You guys have got to be kidding me! The chipmunks by me steal my tomatoes in the spring and summer, take bites out of them and leave them on the vine and it ticks me off! And Guess what? Last year I shot 30 of them, and this year I plan to do better. My first 3 chipmunks are going to a taxidermist in Oklahoma who is going to mount one for me. The rest, I am going to skin, tan and sell.
WaCoyote
Re: 1st Chipmunk on the year! PICS You should have said he was a garden raider in the first place. Then no one would have had a problem wih it.
