slugshooter Posted May 16, 2005 Report Share Posted May 16, 2005 First let me say that this is tounge in cheek. I don't want this to turn into some major hot headed debate. But I had a thought today when I was reading the Parade insert in the Sunday paper. One of the questions on the inside of the front page was about Condileeza Rice and her lack of a husband. I realized that I never really thought much about it, the question was answered that in her younger days she dated a Denver Bronco but that since then if she had had anything more than a casual relationship with a man then she has been keeping it to herself. I immediately thought back to the Janet Reno days and her lack of a man and the insinuations that were made about her, which, by all accounts are probably true, just because she is more manly looking than I am. I realized then that if there are or have been insinuations about Condi, they definitely aren't getting much press about it, honestly, I'm surprised that the media hasn't made it much more of a deal than it needs to be. Just for the record, I don't think she plays for the other side, but what are some of your thoughts as to why she has never married or hasn't married yet. She strikes me as someone that doesn't have time to be married, I mean, from hearing about her past it seems like she has kept herself busy in a professional aspect and just never bothered or found the time to date and get married, either that or she just hasn't met the right person, which, not everyone is destined to get married, which seems sad to me in a way. Dont really know enough about her to question why she has not married, but she is a pretty busy person and maybe she just does not have the drive for companionship. Nothing is said about single men in politics, nobody starts asking if the man might be gay because he isn't married, why would you ask the same question of a woman? I think she is a career woman and that means that there isn't time for an outside life. Why should she get married, she is wealthy, independent, and is never home. A husband would just distract or slow her down at this point in her career. With the attention that Cheney's daughter recieved from the press, I think that they would have jumped all over any indication that she was gay. I'm in a good mood so I didn't get too upset when I read what she wrote Elwood. I only said what everyone else on here has most likely thought at some point. My main point in the post was why the media hasn't jumped on the insinuations against Condi like they did on Reno. Reno may or may not be gay, I coudn't give a rats behind, nor, could I care if Condi were or not. Just noting the differences in how two separate single female cabinet members have been treated by the media and other outlets. What kills me is how this got you so upset and you find this so offensive, when there have been other, much more offensive things said in this room that you didn't say jack about. [/ QUOTE ] No, it isn't offensive because we are talking about females, it is offensive because a woman can't dress how she feels comfortable without being called a lesbian. Following this logic, everytime I go hunting it should just be assumed that I am gay because I am dressed like a man and a lot of the time I am alone. I agree that Janet Reno has masculine features, but that is what she was born with and isn't her fault. She dresses "manly" because women are told over and over again that if we are to make it in a "man's world" we need to blend in and look like them. This poor woman does what she was told she needed to do to make a name for herself, and instead of looking at the job she does the media and public just wonder what gender she is attracted to. I don't envy these women in politics one bit. If they attend a media conference more is said about what they decided to wear instead of what they had to say. And for the record, I would be just as offended if a man was dressed too well dressed or too soft spoken and his sexual orientation was questioned. It has nothing to do with judging her on the way she looks. It's just the facts. Whether that means anything more........I'm not the one to judge. But any high profile political figure that has a skeleton in his/her closet is vulnerable to be a target of blackmail. Kinda dangerous.
