Guest johndeer44
I';ve been wanting to try either a scott longhorn or a carter insatiable back tension release. I'm leaning to the carter. Anyone use these and what do you think of them? Thanks in advance.
MCH
Re: back tension releases I haven't used them john, but I've heard nothing but good about them. The Carter is a little more popular among spot shooters from what I can tell. I'm purchasing a Tru-Ball Chappy Boss. I've been shooting a friend's and have fallen in love with it. MCH
Re: back tension releases Just my opinion, but I'd stay away from back tensions for hunting. The majority of the ones that I've witnessed shot, were noisy. I wouldn't dare use one in conjunction with a gloved hand...
Tony
Re: back tension releases i shoot BT releases for competition.. i do not shoot Bt for hunting... but there are many that do... i use a standard Carter one shot caliper release for hunting.... shooting BT and shooting BT releases are 2 whole differant worlds... there are several types of releases.. there are thumb triggers , hinge jaw ( true Bt releases ) and index finger trigger calipers , middle finger , and pinky releases.... if you want to shoot a Scott longhorn Bt release its going to take a long time to learn to use it.. if you wont make the comittment to shoot it properly then why spend close to 90 bucksfor a release you wont shoot properly.. its a feast or famine thing.. if your serious get it if not dont ..... now the Carter Insatiable is a good chioce for a hunting release.. the reason is that it has a thumb trigger that you can squeeze like an index finger release , but use your thumb instead.. or you can shoot it with BT... if you dont ever want to shoot competition then i would get the Insatiable , but if you really want to learn Bt the the Longhorn can be the ticket... i would recomend that you get a Bt release with a safety and learn that way first.. the Carter Solution 3 or 2.5 is a good choice ... however you are talking a lot more dough for the Insatiable , its around 140 bucks each.. the Solutions are around 150... Pm me if you need further help.. or post this question on the Competitive Archery forum here....
