VTbowman
I am not surprized to see 40, 50, or even 60 yards for a far compound bow kill. My furthest was 47 yards on a doe in my front yard. Heck we all try one at least once on something far weather we admit it or not. But I was interested on how far the furthest traditional bow kills were. To date I have yet to harvest any animals with mine but did pass up a 16 yard shot on a small doe last year. I am fairly sure I could of taken it but it was real small and I decided to let her grow a bit. She never knew I was there. So anyone? How far? VTbowman
Re: Furthest traditional bow kill? I think once my compound is sold my trad game will improve 10 fold. The fact I am not shooting it is not enough. I know I can always blow the dust off and hit a 2" circle at 30 yards with no practice. Shooting trad bows has way more muscle conditioning for drawing back the compound so thats not a concern. At full draw the long bow is like 3x that of which my compound is. Fixed pins and a good anchor point is all I would need on the compound. And I know it! This keeps me from pushing myself to become better with the long bow since I know I can always swap back if things get tough out in the deer woods. Right now I am hitting 4" groups at 20 to 25 yards with my new long bow. I am striving for that at 40 yards... Thats my goal anyways... Rhino
Re: Furthest traditional bow kill? VTbowman my longest kill shot with my recurve is 25 yards. At least that's about what I thought it was in my head when I turned the arrow loose. That's pretty much my self imposed max range for hunting with a recurve. I'll shoot targets out to 40 yards with my recurve but that's a whole different thing. LOL getting a consistant 4" group at 40. I never could do that at 40 yards with my recurve. Guest antlers21
Re: Furthest traditional bow kill? I really would like to get a long bow and try it. I may give it a shot this winter and practice a lot.
JimPic
Re: Furthest traditional bow kill? My longest shot and kill on a deer was a 22yd shot on a 6pt with a recurve that I whistled at to stop him.My farthest kill on a critter was 39yds on a groundhog last year with a recurve. My bro and I were at the club we belong to on the practice range when a hog came out of the tree line.I saw him, turned, drew and released in one quick motion and hit him quartering away.
