whitetailtrax
Well, the much anticipated May 15th rolled around and even though I was sick as could be, I found myself putting on the miles on one of Montana's beautiful Wildlife Management Areas. The competition was stiff, but I was able to stumble across a few antlers. We had such a light winter, that the elk were very scattered this year and most guys weren't nearly as lucky as me. I was very fortunate to find what I did. The brother-in-law also picked up a few deer antlers, but no elk. Guess I'm about done for the year. Sure glad I found this forum - it's fun to come here and see what everyone is finding.
deershed
Re: Successful Weekend!! That's AWESOME!!Congrats!! Are those first two antlers a set? I went upstate Pa. searching for elk sheds Mon. and like you,was sick as a dog.Had to pull over and take a 1/2 power nap on my 4hr. road trip up there. Then ended up cutting the day short at 4:00 with cold chills while walking around. I was lucky though and found a true monster shed.A 12 1/2 inch spike shed. It was a monster to me anyway. It had some dry velvet still hanging on it that I thought was pretty neat too.I'll post a pic later. Congrats again, you did good!!
MadHuntinPastor
Re: Successful Weekend!! Congrats on the sheds and it is great having you in the forums. Thanks for sharing the pics. Sure wish we had sheds like that to find around here!!

If you look in the second photo, you can see that the antler on the far left is faded on the top and brown on the back - that antler laid on the ground a year before I stumbled onto it. The other is fresh from this year and slighly bigger - perhaps off the same bull, but can't say for sure.

deershed
Re: Successful Weekend!! Set or not, still some GREAT sheds!! If that shed layed all year maybe there's hope not all this years sheds were picked up either.Better make another trip. To show you how nice your sheds really are. Here's a pic of the shed I just found up-state Pa. They have some nice ones up there, but the competetion gathers them up as soon as they drop.
