Hoosierbuck
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD Newarcher-they could bury you with your butt sticking out so your widow would have a place to park her bike when she comes to your grave. To the "mortified"-there is no disrespect intended, I am sure, but you gotta remember, you should not take life too seriously, you'll never get out of it alive. Hutchies-If my family always remembers me laying in the casket...I did not live my life very well. I hope that they remember me laughing until pepsi comes out my nose, tucking them into bed, bringing home a big buck in the red truck, etc...I am sure this old Marine's family will remember him as a husband, father and grandfather, not a stiff laying in repose then taking a tumble. horst
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD I gotta admit, i think its pretty funny. If it happened to a family member of mine Id of probably started laughing on the spot. But thats just my family, we can see the humor in just about anything. After all, nobody was seriously hurt, the guy was already dead, and its not something you see every day
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD [ QUOTE ] im a cemetery supervisior and ive seen alot of crazy things and some real sad ones too, but i have to give a little chuckle at that, cause thats something that just isnt supposed to happen. but i can guess the family was upset at the time but will be laughing later... its one of those can you belive this happend stories and trust me these things happen i had a funeral last year when the hearse arrived every one got out and locked the the doors with the casket still inside i had to call the police to come unlock the doors.... and even the family had a little chuckle at that..... saying figures he is late [/ QUOTE ] Ahhh good. Answer something for me then. Is it possible that the site could of been set up faughty causing this to happen. I mean I know you weren't physically there but is it possible. I ask this because I think you may be one less fellow cemetery grounds keeper out there . I think the family was heading straight to the shack afterwards. They looked pretty richy too....like they were mafia or mob ...seriously. I think it was a combination from what I seen. I think something wasn't in-place properly and they didn't have a good grip on it...or at least one of them didn't. Probably the funniest part was when the preacher said to "get the dang (^&%) thing out of the hole.
Guest Andrea
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD I am sorry, but I laughed when I read that. Thanks TSBH, I was having a crappy morning. And I think it was more in how you wrote that and not so much as the actual incident. I mean, come on....the preacher was cussing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sasksheds
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD My brothers & i still laugh @ the time we were carrying grandmas casket. It must have been -40'c here in Sask. All we had on was our suits & black leather (slippery shoes).Dad not thinking asked 3 old gentlemen to stand in.Well it was all my 2 brothers & I could do to manage the casket & keep these old boys from going down!It was so cold & these guys moved like well, like old guys do,SLOW!!So yes Grandma lived a long & happy life & we still get a chuckle from her once in a while. She would have been proud of us!Thanx for the story TSB. Tominator
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD Wow, unbelievable. I've been a pall bearer 3 times I think. The number 2 thing that I always worry about after worrying about losing my grip, would be falling in the hole. I remember the board that I stepped on for my mother's funeral getting quite a bend in it, and I thought it was going to break, but it held. sasksheds
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD My brothers & I being the oldest grandchildren, have been pall bearers for most of our Great Aunts & Uncles & Grandparents. It never gets any easier. The tuffest ones have been young friends lost over the years.I can say that it was an honor to be chosen to carry them to their final resting place & did the best job I could. Guest BuckMaster058
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD I am sry too but I couldn't help but laugh at this post. Hope everyone's ok. But that is not the worst funeral anyone had to go through. My grandmother passed away and my uncle went behind the tent and leaned over his mother's casket and shot himself. And than came from behind the tent and was yelling that he didn't place the shot right. I had nightmares for a long time due to this. Guest IADEERDUDE
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD TSBH.... personally at my cemetery we have nothing to do with the set up.. the vault guys do all that, they have there all there own equipment when the come to the cemetery for a service. ive never seen of of known of any that have messed up a grave but hey crap happens...i can tell you though all of this could of happend from a simple cave in when the ground is soft around the hole and you step in the wrong spot it will give way and collapse the side of the grave
Guest Sagitarius
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD When my Grandpa died I got to be a pallbearer. What you described was my ultimate fear. That being said, Grandpa would have laughed his **** off if that did happen. Yes it would have been mortifying at the time but later it would have been a smile with how the day went. Just remember, grief needs an outlet and in The Grouchs situation if you can't laugh, sooner or later it will kill you.....literally. Tony
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD at the moment it would be horrible . but later on it would be funny ... same for me when i was a pallbearer for my grandpa.. thats all my aunts and uncles kept saying dont drop him and watch your step.. i came very close to the hole but luckly it went ok... when we had my grandmas burial i had to be the one to get down in the grave standing on the side boards and put the wooden boards over the top.. you see in a traditional Amish burial they build the inside of the grave with wood .. then you put the boards on the top so that when the family takes turns shoveling the dirt for the burial it doesnt hit the casket.. it was huge honor for me to be selected out of all my cousins and the hundreds of people there to do this.. it was tough to do but i was the last one to wish my grandma ever lasting peace and say good bye... HarvDog
Re: FUNERAL GONE BAD......REAL BAD Dude! Definitely a crazy story. My dad told me a story about a time he (and 5 others) had to carry a casket over a small swinging bridge in West Virginia to bury someone on the side of a mountain. They almost lost the casket which would have put it in the river...floating away.
