Re: Federal Premium and Rem. hevi-shot

I agree, they called it a turkey load in the article I found, I didn't see turkey only though. I really want it for turkey only, or maybe a pheasant or 2 ! I haven't bought any Rem. hevi-shot yet, and am seeing this on tv. AJ has told me that different companies can use hevi-shot in their shells, not just Rem. I have always thought alot of Federal ammo so I was wondering confused.gif

Re: Federal Premium and Rem. hevi-shot

Federal's version of Hevi-shot, HEAVYWEIGHT, is a tungsten alloy like Hevi-shot, but it is 25 percent more dense than Hevi-shot, and 37 percent more dense than lead. It is a uniform round pellet, instead of the irregular shape of Hevi-shot. It is loaded in the Mag-shok shells, but not all Mag-shoks are Heavyweight. hope this helps.

Re: Federal Premium and Rem. hevi-shot

As far as I know, Remington has the exclusive license to use Hevi Shot from Environmetal. Custom loaders like Nitro Company also market the stuff, but not in the volume that Remington does. The stuff Federal markets is not Hevi Shot. It may be the new Hevi-13, or something like it. I don't know for sure.

The density of steel is about 7.8 g/cc. Lead shot runs about 11 g/cc. Hevi Shot is about 12 g/cc. Federal's new Heavyweight has a density of 15.2 grams per cc.

Heavyweight shot has not yet been approved for migratory waterfowl.

Re: Federal Premium and Rem. hevi-shot

Thanks for the added info guys. We all know how well hevi-shot patterns, although I don't really understand why with the oddball shapes confused.gif

I will certainly be watching pattern results for the Heavyweight. Hevi-shot was such a big leap, I wonder if this will be just that much better again !! I think its great the companies keep on improving on shotshells smirk.gif
