Yesterdays' Hogs

My buddy and I went hog hunting in King City yesterday evening. We planned on going for 2 days but ended it after about 30 minutes!

My buddy Kevin, left, watched his sow come off a hill and walk right to him in the tall grass. His shot was from 18 feet. Kevin took his pig with a 30-06 165 Gr. Federal Fusion. This was Kevin's first pig and he said he was expecting a longer shot. I told him he's lucky he hit the old girl and she didn't run him over. I've been chased by mad hogs and its no fun.

My boar was munching away in a barley field at about 162 yards according to my Leica Geovids. Missed my first standing broadside shot but dropped the hog as he was heading for the hills at a run. This shot got him in the neck and killed him instantly. I was shooting a Marlin Guide Gun in 45/70 topped off with a Leupold IER Scout Scope in 2.75 X 32. This scope is great for moving targets. My load was a 250 Gr. Barnes X-Bullet with 53 Gr. of RL7.

Re: Yesterdays\' Hogs

My buddy was watching the action through his scope on his '06. He said he was gonna drop my hog if I missed again. Friends are great! Anyway, he said when that 45/70 Barnes X-bullet hit him it lifted him off the ground slightly and spun him 180 degrees.
