The Watermelon Challenge!

Well, being bored, male college students myself and a few classmates are again testing our limits. We've done the milk challenge(gallon of homogonized milk, 1 hour, must keep it down for at least one hour after) which of course i completed. lol Today a bunch of us went for breakfast after our morning run, and before class. and on a bet three of us got a "special" meal. Four eggs scrambled with cheese, 6 sausages, 6 strips of bacon, two thick slices of ham, big pile of hashbrowns, 3 big pancakes, 4 slices of toast, and a fruit cup(think they added that to make it healthy??? grin.gif ). Well two of us wiped our plates clean...me the very tall very skinny guy, and the 6' 240 pound big guy. So of course that led to ideas of ways people could watch us suffer to prove who can eat more.

Basically we went for cheap, easy, and hopefully harmless. We got 5 watermelons and cut the pink flesh into cubes, then weighed it into two equal 5 gallon buckets. Each bucket has just over 17 pounds of watermelon in it. Essentially first one done their bucket and keeping it down wins. Our weekends start today at 3 so we are having a barbecue in my yard. Expect updates. lol

P.S. Isn't college great? grin.gif This is my last semester of post-grad....would have thought i would have gotten smarter than this by now.

You should have spiked them first before cutting them into cubes..... grin.gifgrin.gif

Atleast you would have been numb,,for the tummy ache that is ahead.. grin.gifwink.gif

That was suggested, but i am not really a drinker...and that would lead to a headache instead of a tummy ache. lol

Both buckets have a pretty good dent, but i have a small lead. I may have made a tactical error though...i ate a burger to get some real food in me. Oh, and i swallowed a bit the wrong way and had a coughing fit...which in my bloated state almost led to disaster, but i saved it. grin.gif

Strategically, aside from the burger i think i have him beat. I am drinking some juice from the bottom with a few straws taped together every few minutes, he is gonna be stuck having to chug a bunch of juice at the end.

Vermont hunter all the winner gets is the ability to say "Ya, i am an idiot...but i have a big stomach." laugh.gif

We just weighed the buckets and i have 5.3 pounds left, he has 6.1...so close but i am still leading. Sort of hit a wall here with bloated bodies, and the smell of watermelon makes me want to throw up. Oh, and we know who has the bigger bladder (not me frown.gif ) lol

Re: The Watermelon Challenge!

I win! I have never felt so bloated in my life, and i will never look at watermelon the same way again. The last pound just about did me in, but i finished and won by almost 2 pounds. So its official, the 6'7" 165 pound (well probably closer to 175 right at this moment lol) skinny guy has a bigger gut than all challengers so far. lol Now i will go sit very very still...and never do something like this again! (that should last about a week or two) laugh.gif

Not to rain on your parade but....

Death by Waterlogging

When a person drinks massive amounts of water, the excess enters the bowel, which leaches electrolytes such as sodium from the blood. One fatal consequence of this shortage of sodium (called hyponatremia) is swelling of the brain.

Editor's note: An average adult should drink no more than 1-1/2 quarts (44 fl oz, or about five glasses) of plain water per hour or 12 quarts in 24 hours. If you're rehydrating at anywhere near this rate, it's safer to use sport drinks such as Gatorade and POWERade, which contain electrolytes. To learn more about hyponatremia, read this page on Rice University's Web site.
