Griz
I have for the past month been trying to get my yard mow. It seemed like everytime I would go out and start mowing something would brake or fall apart.... So after fixing, kicking and calling it "A Piece Of Junk" a few times, I thought it was time for a new one. So yesterday evening I head to town and buy a brand new riding lawnmower. By the time I got back home and got it unloaded in was pretty late. So today I thought this would be a great day to get my forest mowed. I fill it up with gas. Checked the oil, planted my hide end on the seat, made sure the thing was in -N-, turned the key and "Nothing" The dadgum thing won't even turn over. Dead as a hammer!... So here I have a brand new riding lawnmower that won't run. Heck it won't even start..... I'm thinking about taking it back and buying my wife a brand new push mower and tell here HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!!!! LOL just kidding of coarse..... I am so frustrated right now, it's not even funny. Mean while my forest is getting taller and I'm sitting here with a brand new piece of junk....Errrr! 007hunter
Re: If it wasn\'t for bad luck, I wouldn\'t have any Around here they are required to start it in front of you before you buy it. Did they do that for you? Also what brand did you buy?
MCH
Re: If it wasn\'t for bad luck, I wouldn\'t have any [ QUOTE ] Also what brand did you buy? [/ QUOTE ] Sounds like one of them "Crap"sman mowers.... Probably the "Pieceof" model. Dale, I heard a song today and thought you'd relate. It's called "Don't ask me how I know" and its got that one part where it says "Say a prayer everytime you want to curse" When I first heard it I thought, "Boy, here lately, I'd be praying all day".... Griz
IT\'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got it running. So it looks like I can mow-me-lawn. It was the battery all this time. A new mower with a dead battery... It had me worried for a minute. I kicked all the tires. That didn't do it... I called it a few names to and it just sat there looking dead... Then I check a few other things out while I was at it... The spark was a sparkin'... The gas was a gasin'... And the piston's were a...Well they were working anyways... Welp! I guess it's time to get out my chair and whip and have the wife get started... I mean I'll get the yard back into shape...lol
too_pointer
Re: IT\'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats good griz. I had to put a new battery in my Craftsman this spring. I'm sure that tractors which set for awhile have run down batteries, hopefully now it all set to " work " too_pointer

wtnhunt
Re: IT\'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New mower with a dead battery, sounds like my luck. Did they not start it to load it? Maybe setting and not being started for a while the battery was just too low.

Shaun_300
Re: IT\'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey Griz, on most mowers you have to hold down the clutch/brake for them to start, even when they are in neutral. try that!

Grant-KS
Re: IT\'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude, you haven't had the fun I've had with mine! LOL I got a Dixon 312 with a bad engine, so I rebuilt it and it runs like a dream. I had to adjust the transmission (cone drive) and ran it for a while, then the drive belt kept popping off. My lower cone shaft bearing was very dead, and the shaft was flopping around inside it. So, I had to tear the entire transmission apart, replace the bearings, and since the bearing had ruined the shaft, replaced the cone drive shaft. Readjusted transmission after re-assembly. Ran it for a while, mowed the yard a couple times...hit a big ol' piece of sucker rod around the combine, bent the blade, bought a new blade, installed new blade, shakes like a dancer straight from ...well, you know, where most bad things come straight from. So, talked to Sylvan at Fairview Service, a Dixon dealer/service center. He told me my deck was bent. So, I spent a few hours on it with two sledge hammers and a ruler, finally got it put back together, and it worked like a dream. Yesterday my bro. and I went to church to mow the place, and both rear tires were flat. So, I took it to Fairview and got both tires fixed. Got back and after my bro. talked to me for a bit and wanted to start it again, it wouldn't crank at all. (electric start) So, I started wiggling wires, nothing happened. Then based on my by this time intricate knowledge of this piece of cra...machinery, I retraced the wiring to the battery, and there I found the positive battery cable's eyelet had broken, so we touched it to the terminal and turned the key at the same time, and it worked. And, that is its current condition as of right now. I think I'll be buying a brand spankin' new grasshopper for my next riding mower. Sheeeeeesh!!! And not only that, I am paying for everything on it cuz' it's my mower. Now, with that said, sorry that your mowers have been giving you so much trouble, and I'm glad you got your new one going now. I finally got both my rider and dad's Honda pusher fixed just this week after straightening the deck on the rider, and replacing the transmission on the pusher.
