Danica Patrick

I'm not huge Indy car fan, but being a race fan I keep tabs on all the series. What do you all think of Danica Patrick? I have been following her for the past couple years in the Toyota Atlantic Series. I personally think she may be the real deal. A lot of the other female drivers have been nothing more than a gimmick, for lack of a better word. I think Danica has what it takes to race with the guys. When she is interviewed, she is confident, almost to the point of sounding cocky. Thats not a bad thing, and I have never seen another female driver come across that way. I will be watching Indy with interest this year, and will be pulling for Danica.

Whats do you think?

Her looks definately don't hurt her chances at success, but she seems to be able to prove herself on the racetrack too. A win on sunday would be the ultimate proof.

Re: Danica Patrick

Did ya'll here Robby Gordon's comments concerning her? Something to the effect that her and her car will have a weight advantage over everyone else, being sshe is like 5'2" and around 105-110. Think it was crappy for him to say something like that

Re: Danica Patrick

I agree Gator, the way he said, what he said wasn't right, but he does make a valid point. Why would the Indy Racing League, have a minimum weight rule that is without the driver, The cars are so light, that 100 pounds in driver weight has to make a difference. The IRL should definately start weighting the cars with the drivers weight included. Just makes more sense, and would make it fair for everyone.

100 pounds lighter or not. I hope she is in victory lane this afternoon.

Re: Danica Patrick

I don't really know a lot about the working of an indy car. They are a lot more technical than anything in any of the Nascar divisions. From cup cars, right down to divisions that run your local track, thecars are built as light as possible, and weight is added to the car, where it is needed to get the proper left to right weight ration and cross weights to make the car handle properly. I'm not sure if Indy cars are at all like this, though I doubt it. I guess thats just the difference between Indy cars ,and REAL race cars. grin.gif

Reading another article, it said that the 100 pound difference in weight, would equate to 1 mph on the track. Comeing down to the last lap that could make a big difference.

Re: Danica Patrick

Glad she did well, congrats to her!

But, the post race coverage was BS. Why was 90% of the post race coverage about her 4th place finish and not Wheldon's win? confused.gif That is the 2nd biggest race in the world (behind Daytona grin.gif ) and the 4th place finisher gets almost all the attention. I'm glad she did well, but geez. crazy.gif

Re: Danica Patrick

Chrud... It's probably because 90% of the Indy hype this past month had to do with her. I bet you will see that the ratings were higher than the past few indy 500's. A female driver, that could actually drive was a new plot for the 500, and it definately paid dividends.

Besides, they probably had to kill time while that guy that was old enough to be Wheldons grandfather was pushing the car to victory lane by himself, after he ran out of gas shocked.gif....LOL

Maybe because the winner ran out of gas and it took forever to have one guy push him around the track! grin.gif

Was there anyone else that finished in the top-5? She did great and it was awesome to see her lead, but the winner and the rest of the top-5 should have gotten a bit more attention. JMO.

Re: Danica Patrick

I was sitting at the 1st turn and wasnt impressed at all. She couldnt get it done on the turns and eventually lost the race on the down stretch @ the start/finish line. She made several rookie mistakes and flat out choked when she had a 6 lar length lead. She had a super fast car, infact it was Buddy Rices Argent Pioneer car. Put Sarah Fisher in that car and she woulda won it! DP is over-rated!
