VermontHunter
Re: Danica Patrick [ QUOTE ] I was sitting at the 1st turn and wasnt impressed at all. She couldnt get it done on the turns and eventually lost the race on the down stretch @ the start/finish line. She made several rookie mistakes and flat out choked when she had a 6 lar length lead. She had a super fast car, infact it was Buddy Rices Argent Pioneer car. Put Sarah Fisher in that car and she woulda won it! DP is over-rated! [/ QUOTE ] The only rookie mistake I saw was stalling the car after a pit......and yeah she had a 6 car lead but what you didn't know as a spectator was that she was running the car lean conserving fuel,,,,if it had not been for the fact of running low on fuel she would have had enough horsepower to win,,,but her teams objective was to place repsectably in the field,,which I think she did a very good job on doing....so to say you weren't impressed with limited facts I would say is alittle harsh,,remember she is a rookie and is still in the learning curve.... Guest psejake16
Re: Danica Patrick I wasnt impressed! In my mind she didnt live up to the expectations. She had a super fast car and she was the lightest driver in the race which acording to Robby Gordon is an advantage. I just think that she didnt live up to the expectations, and that the only reason people think shes so great is due to her sex appeal and not her driving skills. Sarah Fisher in my mind is the best female driver. As far as conserving...I think that she decided to take a kamikazee move and stay out on caution just to put her name in the record books. If she would have pitted she woulda restarted around 13-15. Not a bad spot on a fast track with 12 laps to go. She just did some yellow flag shuffling to put herself in the books. VermontHunter
Re: Danica Patrick As for the garbbage that Robbie Gordon had to say,,,it's exactly that garbbage... As for staying out just to lead a lap,,many drivers play that out,,,,,but the over all dicission comes fron the crew chief.. And as for the media expectations so what she fell alittle short.....and as for Sarah Fisher, if Im not mistaken I don't think she ever placed in the top 5, or turned out lap times such as Danica's but I will take in account of the ERA of equipment... From what Im gathering from you is all that she is, is a media grabber and showboat,,I may be wrong.... IMO she did one heck of a job and finished well for a rookie with all kinds of pressure on her that she handled very well...... We'll see if she is the real deal as her career goes on,,I for one wish her all the best, it's refreshing to she a female suceede in a male dominated sport... Chrud
Re: Danica Patrick She did do a great job. I'm not trying to take anything away from her. She made history in the Indy 500 this weekend. But, what I didn't like was her getting more post-race attention than the race winner.
tedicast
Re: Danica Patrick she had to get the post race attention. Her name is the only name you heard metioned in the same sentence as Indy for the past month. Plus between her, and Wheldon's winning streak...they are the only 2 stories in IRL right now. MUDRUNNER
Re: Danica Patrick I thought it was good to see her run so well and lead a few laps.I have to say I was pulling for her to win.I believe she is the real deal and will win her share of races. She is definately a great marketing tool for the IRL. I kinda wonder when NASCAR will start looking for there own version of Danica so they can boost the ratings make even more money.
VABuckSlayer
Re: Danica Patrick Because of her... the ratings for watching the race were up 40% from last year. I wouldn't have cared to watch the race other than to see how she did.I think she did a great job. The reason she stayed out on that caution was because Bobby said it was their best chance to win the race. It was his decision not hers. I think I would listen to the car owner too. She will be great for the IRL if she can continue to do well. Eric
muggs
Re: Danica Patrick I think she's good for the sport, but it seemed like they've been exploiting her a little to much. She wasn't the first female driver??

[/ QUOTE ] a coyple years ago, when she firsr started getting really noticed, I remember reading somewhere that she was gonna test a Busch car for someone. I'm thinking it was either Penske, or Ganassi Racing, someone with an Indy car connection. I never heard any more about it though.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Danica Patrick I respect her for racing cars and right now Indy cars need all the help they can get and the more hype might save that series. NASCAR just crushes it in the ratings and probably always will. They refer to NASCAR race cars as "taxi-cabs" but the problem is the "taxi-cabs" pack most tracks where Indy cars fan base is no where near NASCAR's as of now. I work on a race team and weight does play a big factor. We must weigh 2700 lbs. before the race and a lighter driver allows you to move ballast (weight) to where you want it. A lighter driver allows for moving it around quite a bit. World of Outlaws was and I am not sure if the rule changed but their wasn't a weight rule and the only way a Steve Kinser could compete because of his size against the smaller guys was to use lightweight carbon fiber parts on his car to get down on weight and all that does is drive up the costs of racing. I give Danica credit, you did o.k her first time, now stick her in a NASCAR and see what she can do!! Racing will always have controversary, it drives the sport!! spyderpancake
Re: Danica Patrick She is a good driver and it is good to see a woman do well, but face it, if she wasn't as good-looking as she is( i.e. Shawna Robinson,Tina Gordon), she would not have gotten a quarter of the coverage. The fact is the IRL is using her as their superhero to get some interest into the series. But it won't work very well. If she wants to show people that she can really race, she needs to move to NASCAR!

Let's just take her for what she is,,,a great driver, but also for the moment a ROOKIE thats going to make mistakes on the track...
