bowhunt101
I saw a post wallago that brought back memorys of my long bow. My question is this. Sorry If I drag this out but anyways. I used to shoot a long bow for fun and practice before I ever got into bowhunting. The long bow is like 45-50lb pull I believe and I think it is a pearson bow. I shot perty good with it before I got the compound but I dont have a string for it. How much would string for that thing cost me if I wanted to get into Traditional Archery again? I would appreciate any info on this topic and in advance, Thanks.-tim
bowhunt101
Re: Traditional Archery? I appreciate the reply but thought Id drop back in here and let everybody know I dont plan to give up the compound over this traditional thing. Just curious about traditional shooting thats all. Id rather be really accurate and know what I shoot at is going down because of the compound with sights and all than shoot the long bow and mess up and miss or worse, cripple the buck, know what I mean? Im the same way with my rifles. I wanna shoot a scope on everything whether it be a 22, 30-30, 270, 280, or whatever I want a scope on it so I know Im accurate enough to kill cleanly what Im shooting at. Just lettin yall know Im not givin up the compounds that easy like Im crazy or something but I was curious about the traditional shooting. yall takemeasy and have a good one.-tim
Tony
Re: Traditional Archery? you can be very accurate with a recurve or longbow , you just need to remember that your max range will be limited to what you can accurately shoot.. all it takes is a ton of practice and the right arrow and bow combination... i started shooting traditional archery last year.. i bought a Hoyt Game master in 50 lb...i limited my self to shots to 20 yards and under..i practiced with it to no end and finally after 2 months of solid practice i was ready... i hunted with it for the first 10 days of bow season and i got a real rush just doing it.. problem was that i didnt see a doe close enough to take with it... but this year i will be at it again.... recurve for the first 10 days and then back to my compound... i will be trying to fill my early season county doe tag with it... VTbowman
Re: Traditional Archery? If you look around the forums, especially on ArcheryTalk.com I am sure you could find a string for $10. Tons of string makers out there. Call or stop by your local pro shop they could probably make one for ya while you wait for like $15 to $20. Like Tony said, tons and tons of practice. But to train your brain. Its not like compounds where your training your muscles to keep still long enough to settle a pin and pull the trigger of a release. Trad shooting is the training of your subconscience mind to make the arm/bow elevation and side-to-side adjustments for you. That way your just burnin a hole in what you want to shoot with your eye, hit anchor, and release. You brain aims for you. After awhile you just can do it. Kinda like throwing a baseball. After a few times you know how hard to throw, what angle to throw it at and normally you can get it very close to the other guys glove. No sights on your arm for that! LOL Practice is the key with trad. AFTER you tune your arrows and your bow! Good Luck!
