Guest MizzouHunter6
Im looking to switch from just the average joe muzzys (which are outstanding broadheads) to expandables. My draw weight is around 50 lbs but im lookin to bump it up around 55 when the season starts. With carbon arrows , which brand of expandables do you all prefer? Is any one type better than another? Ive heard there can be some penetration issues if you arent careful. Id appreciate your input!
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Expandables Shooting between 50-55 lb., I wouldn't suggest using a mechanical with a large cutting diameter. I personally would recommend the Rocky Mountain Snyper. It's design allows it to penetrate easily and it needs very little KE to open. Personally, I don't think you will be producing enough KE to shoot a NAP Spitfire, Wasp Jak-Hammer, etc., as these heads require more energy to open than most other heads. If I were you, I'd opt for the Snyper, a Rocket Steelhead, a G5 Tekan, or any other mechanical with a cutting diameter of no more than 1 1/4" and a design that opens easily will be your greatest tool. If you could list your arrow weight and the speed of your bow we could figure out how much KE you are producing for sure and this would help us figure out exactly what you are working with, but judging from what you have provided, I wouldn't recommend shooting a head with a large cutting diameter.
