wtnhunt
Re: UNDERGROUND MINING PICS Cool pics. Have several old pics of my grandfather in mines. He was in the coal mining industry pretty much all his life.
buckee
Re: UNDERGROUND MINING PICS Pretty cool pictures. This area I live in ("Cumberland, BC") was founded because of the coal deposits here. The hills are undermined everywhere here. They haven't mined for coal here in years now, but are talking about starting production again. Be careful and may God be with you down there. TreeWalker
Re: UNDERGROUND MINING PICS Wow.....there goes my ignorance again....I wasn't aware that underground mining still took place.....I assumed everything was strip-mined now.......that's what's big up in our area...... In fact some of the old undergorund mine shafts are starting to collapse......you see sink holes all over like the moons craters........we had one collapse under the boat dealership I used to work at while we were there......scary stuff.........take care of yourself

LifeNRA
Re: UNDERGROUND MINING PICS Whew! Not for me! There is a place here in PA called the Pioneer Tunnel. Used to be an old coal mine operation. Now its a tour. Anyways, I was suprized how much colder it was when we reached the end of the mine shaft. It was 90 outside, something like 55 in the mine! Never knew it could be that cold.
