JimT
Welp, here is my first real attempt at a fan mount. I did one things wrong, and am not sure how to do one thing. First, how do I get the tips of the feather straight? Second, I let it dry in my cellar for two weeks, and when I unpinned it from the styrofoam I noticed the back was not completley dry. I put some borax on the meat and walked away. The fan was straight then, but before it dried it started to "collapse" a little. That is unfixable now but it is not to bad. I think it looks pretty good in my room... But next time I will spend the extra money on a better plaque.
RTF
Re: Turkey Fan You better make sure there is no meat on your fan. If so it wont last. The bugs will get to it and the secondary feathers will start to fall out. As far as the feather tips, just tweak them with your index finger and thumb. Pull up on them and they will close together and straighten out.

Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Turkey Fan Jim - Just because the meat is under bondo, doesn't mean it is bug proof. They can go through the skin to get to the meat. On future mounts, you realy need to get 100% of the meat, fat, and the oil gland out of the tail. It is a pain, but the only way to insure a long lasting mount. Actually, the meat is not that hard once you figure out the trick to it. It is the fat between the quills that you have to work at. There is A LOT of it. I posted a link either in this section or in the turkey section a month or so ago, to the method I use to remove everything and then preserve the tail. Let me know if you can't find it, I'll re-post it.
JimT
Re: Turkey Fan I got all the meat/fat that I could without it coming apart. I am pretty sure I did it right. What happened was I had it in the cellar and it has rained alot here lately, so the bottom did not dry as fast because it was up against the cardboard/foam. I hope...lol. I picked away at the meat for a while. I will keep an eye on it for sure though..Thanks guys....
