Question for you guys and gals!

Some of you may remember that I am involved in my churches recreation ministry. Actually I guess you could say that I am over the outdoor ministry. Anyways we kicked our ministry off this past Feb. with a wild game dinner that was a hit. We had a great turnout and 14 people came to Christ that night.....God is Awesome.

Anyways, I am trying to add a new part to this and just wanted to get some feedback on what you guys and gals thougt about this.

I am thinking about spreading our outdoors area to include an atv ministry. Get group rides up to local areas as well as taking some trips out of town.

I know of other churches that have had great success in this area and have drawn alot of young peoples attention with the ministry.

I feel that God has blessed me to be in this postion and I need to expand the ministry all that I can. Just wanted to see what all of you thought about this.

By the way.....talking about the wild game dinner we had and the people that accepted Christ that night. One of the people was a gentleman at the young age of 83. He accepted Christ into his life that night and has become a regular in our church since then. His family contacted me and said that they had talked with him for years and couldn't get through to him and that it amazed them that in one night at a function about what he loved most......hunting and the outdoors, that he came to Christ. All I could say to them is God works in misterious ways and works on each individual in His own way in His own time. Like I always say, "God is good all the time and all the time God is good!"

May God bless each and everyone of you!

Re: Question for you guys and gals!

God is good! It's awesome to hear about successful ministries where people are coming to the Lord. It sounds like you're doing a great job.

I'm not too sure about the idea of an ATV event though. Would it be just for those who own ATVs or have riden before? Would you be renting for those that don't have them? What about liability and insurance? I'm not trying to bash the idea because we need to do whatever we can to win souls and now-a-days we MUST get creative. I'm just concerned about injuries and the legal ramifications they would have on you and your church. Just something to think about...

Re: Question for you guys and gals!

Sounds like a good ministry but be aweful careful to set ground rules and throw anyone out (in a nice way) if they violate them. ATV's can kill easily.

Also, make triple sure about the liability issues with the church insurer to ensure adequate coverage amounts. You might also consult an attorney to have a good waver drawn up for everyone to sign.

The big trend for greedy clients and starving scumbag attorneys is to sue churches AND their officers. So much so that we had to recently add Officers coverage to our policy because people are suing for such things as injuries and:

"I don't feel my offerings were spent wisely and correctly".

As the insurer put it....the creme always tends to rise to the top. So most or many officers in churches tend to be very nice people and successes in the community. That generally means they have assets of significant value, generally are too nice and believe no one would sue them, and generally aren't protected with insurance correctly.

Having said that....sounds like you are laying your treasures up in heaven. Go into the highways and the hedges and find lost souls. Not to mention the Summitt's and the Polaris's and the leases. Find them where you can....good for you. It is a good feeling to know the truth of what you helped do and know that you made heaven ring. Every time a lost sinner is brought into the fold:

"Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."—Luke 15:8-10.

Luke, my favorite chapter in the bible!

Wow, awesome to hear of such a harvest at your last function!

I think an ATV outreach could be extrememly effective. You would certainly reach to a little different segment of the "outdoor" crowd. Sounds like your church really has things going in the right direction! That is great to hear...

God's blessings on you and the congregation!

Where are you going to find places to ride locally, that is legal?

What church?

[/ QUOTE ]

There are several places to ride around here that aren't too far away.

Lets see:

Patton's Point ( just south of Hernando, MS)

Sardis and Grenanda Lake

Potts Camp

other places at Arkabutla Lake

Sugar Creek Trails in the Lost Forrest

There are a couple of other places that we ride that are private land in Mississippi.

As for what church..that would be Germantown Baptist. You ought to come visit us sometime! Great place! grin.gif
