However, I also don’t agree with some of the comments regarding public schools. I’m not naïve enough to think that the public school system is perfect. Hmmm…maybe this is a topic for another thread…anyway…I think that all kids need to experience the public school system. Sure, there are things they will be exposed to that we as parents don’t agree with but I don’t think that trying to shelter them by home schooling or other means is the answer either. I personally have seen some very bad situations come out of things like this; some because they simply weren’t prepared when faced with certain situations. I am NOT saying that this is the case all the time or even the majority of the time but in my mind, kids will be faced with real life experiences in the real world at some point. Why shouldn’t we prepare them in advance?!?! I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on this and, quite honestly, it isn’t like me to get into stuff like this so I think I’ll just stop now. You know, there used to be a time not quite so long ago (I am 35 and can remember it) where someone who treated a soldier such a way would be ran out of town on a rail! It is a sad state of affairs that people act this way and get away with it. We are giving away the farm folks. In doing so, we are dishonoring the memory of those who fought for our country and paid the ultimate price. Perhaps we should make them attend a send off for a group of our finest Marines and watch the anguish on the faces of wives and children when their husband/dad goes away...possibly never to return.
