Are there any WV turkey hunters on here? How was your season?

My son and I called one up about 2 weeks before season and I took some pictures with my Minolta 7000AF 35mm camera. He came in strut'n and got within 20 yards. After that we didn't go back in the woods until the opening day. We already knew their were turkeys in the area, well we hunted 5 different days there during the season and never heard a bird. We started scouting some other areas but never heard a bird the rest of the season.

My best friend is form WV. He goes back everyso often and turkey hunts. This year was one of those years. He was there for the opener and had miserable weather. I believe the second day they had 6" of snow and rain and wind most other days. He did manage to get a jake using one of our calls. It was only his 3rd turkey. He's one of those guys that had immediate success then a long hard road after that.

Kind of curious as to where your friend hunted. The first day of spring gobbler season, here in Fayette County we had 6 inches of snow on the ground. Of course my son and I didn't get a bird this year.

Re: Any WV Turkey Hunters?

i am from parkersburg. i hunted one day close to the wood/wirt line and didnt hear or see anything. hunted a few more right at the wood/pleasants county line and heard prolly 6... i didnt get a WV bird. i spent the rest of the season hunting in Ohio with my dad and grandpa in Marietta. we lucked into a few there.

The weather sure was screwy the first couple weeks.
